Decision time.....what to sell to get Ableton

Post by GeoffShoulders » Thu Jan 25, 2007 8:30 pm

Ok. I currently have an MPC 2000XL, a couple of electribes & a 14 channel spirit mixer, having sold my Novation ks5 last year.

But, I really want to get into software, specifically Ableton with the Novation SL but don't have the cash, so.........

should I sell the hardware to fund my £800 Ableton 6 with Operator & Sampler & Novation SL purchase?

I heard you get more if you have blonde hair and blue eyes....and even more if you graduated top of your class in an Ivy League school....as much as $50,000.

I bet there are folks on this forum that would pay good cash money for a Sasha/BT/Hawtin specimen.

They'd probably want to extract it first-hand to confirm its authenticity, though...

Honestly, I think Ableton is powerful enough to replace all that if you're serious about this. That combined with an SL is very powerful, if slim.

Oh, I'm definitely serious! Just a big leap but as I'm not using the hardware that much & have really enjoyed the limited time i've spent using Ableton 5 I thought I'd give it a go.

i'm a minimalist,
so i'd say sell everything and keep only what you'll actually use.
i'm in the middle of moving, and it's quite hilarious...
all my stuff can fit in one van trip.
my wife is a different story...probably 15 trips full, and it's 90% shit
she's held onto "just in case", or for "when i get the time to.."
she is a successful painter and multimedia artist, so it's medium, just like
gear for music, but alot of it has been boxed since before we were married 5 years ago. i'm thinking of tossing half of it, i bet she'd never notice.
i just don't see how people can live like this, it weighs you down so much...
only thing that has put stress on our marriage, actually.
anyway, sorry about the rant, but i feel better...
so, my vote is for living light, and keeping only what you really need.

hehe, nice post D K,

I am both into light living AND a hoarder with a Gear Acquisition Syndrome problem.

The way I deal is to spent so much time setting up a minimal rig that I don't bother introducing more. The rest is in storage, not bringing me down, waiting for a rainy day/ a more appropriate studio / whatever.
