NEW Drum Layering System & Drum Tutorials

Post by mattsonic » Sat Feb 03, 2007 8:28 pm

Most types of electronic music need big, full drum sounds. The best way to get that sound is to layer lots of drums together. Practically every electronic music producer uses this technique. Unfortunately, it isn't nearly as easy as it could be in Ableton Live without extra VST plugins.

So, I decided to release a system that simplifies the whole process. It's called DrumStack, and it will rock your drums. :)

Ah, the Chord device. In my experiments to get all 8 slots to play the same note I could never get it working..but didn't try the chord device. Sure beats having to flick to another Impulse within a rack to access other layers and less fidling around in the tiny key-zone editor. Nice work mattsonic.

I like the look of this but:

What's the real advantage over this to simply putting the elements of the drum into different tracks?

Is there an audio advantage or is it just convenience?

for me some of the advantages are...
having my multilayered drumkit in one easy to access channel/rack
the ability to save the layered kit as a single rack
not having to re-route the input on individual drum channels to the master drum track
being able to see in piano roll which notes correspond to which drum sounds

ability to combining this with the 128impulse rack for some crazy fun 8)

A convenience thing then!

I do take a bit of time over my drums and, like everyone I guess, its always a tricky and time consuming area.

If this saves some time and makes it all easier, faster and more logical then count me in!

Thanks Matt!
