sppedstep is made to increase the cpu frequency on demand, what you think to gain by disabling it?sqook wrote:There's at least one tweak worth performing, and that's removing /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext. This will disable speedstepping on your mac, meaning that it will always run at the full CPU clock speed.
Of course, this will effect your battery power, but if performance is more important to you, then that doesn't really matter...
I am not currently using a Mac for audio, but, just as you would on a Windows machine, I would expect that you should turn off any devices you are not using (e.g., wireless networking, bluetooth, ethernet, iSight camera, etc.) to free up system resources that may get diverted to those devices and avoid potential conflicts with your audio hardware.

I got the guitar chord one via Apple's widget site, I don't remember what it's called and there's no website info on the back.

Speedstep is not perfect and has its side effects. By disabling it you gain stability, no unexpected clicks and pops due to a sudden increase in cpu (a new track starts and has lots of plugs...) And also, you actually get to know how much processing power you have left.zappen wrote:sppedstep is made to increase the cpu frequency on demand, what you think to gain by disabling it?

I love my MB C2D. Be sure to enable two-finger scrolling/click in sys prefs. It rocks in general, but especially so in Live. Expose is way cool too.
If you want to recover some disk space eaten up by the OSX default install, you can get rid of about of gig of iDVD templates and Garageband loops (unless you want to keep those for Live!) You can also use a utility called Monolingual to delete tons of foreign langugage localizations and unwanted printer drivers.

Get SoundSource, a free app that sits in your menu bar and allows one-click switching between your Mac's built-in audio ins and outs and your external soundcard (without having to delve into system prefs) Very handy!
