Yep. Having fiddled around last night I have to say that is a lot more than just convenience.

Great sounding drums and the tweaking options due to the seperate sample elements is awesome!!

Question though:

What does everyone else think the key samples would be for building a Hat, snare and crash cymbal?

Can we seperate those as easily into the sperate sound requirements?

I was fiddling with snare sounds and as it is a drum too, like a kick, it has similar requirements IMO:

1) An initial contact sound which would vary depensing on stick size, brush, stlye of music being played.

2) A sound that defines the snare contact with the drum head, tight, loose on or off.

3) A tone that has a specific ring length and tuning requirement. It will also vary depending on tightness of the drum heads, the material the drum is made out of etc.

What you guys think?

What about cymbals too, they have that additional property of "swell and decay" after the initial strike... whaddaya think?

Just a note. I am signed up for the producer's tips, but the last email I received on the 3rd of February was dated back in October, and didn't have a reference to Drumstack.

Just FYI.

Individual outs seem to be a PITA.

I want all the kicks to go to one out put, but this does not seem possible.
ANY ideas?

I'd also like to say that the site itself is an excellent resource! That utility plug usage for volume automation pre-mastering is a great idea. Appreciate your hard work.

Hi!

Are you interested in bussing the audio into another track for the purposes of adding audio effects? If so, it is easier to just add effects after the Impulse. Just drag an effect directly to the right of the Impulse to add it to the signal chain. NOTE: If you drag it too far, the effect will be added to the whole DrumStack.

If you want to render an individual drum channel (e.g. just kick drums) to a new audio file, then you need to bus the audio to a new audio channel. Use the following steps to accomplish this:
  • Create a new audio track

Change the audio input type from Ext In to the name of your MIDI track that has DrumStack.

Select the input channel of the DrumStack that you wish to record. For example, select DrumStack | bd | Post Mixer

    Arm the track for recording

    Turn on the global record

    Press play
Hope this answers your question :) Also, thanks to everyone for the positive feedback!

This is awesome, but now I have to go back through all my tracks and layer my kicks better! Little bit of work that, but worth it.

The only thing that isn't easy is if you want to send the hats to a send track with reverb. Not as efficient to add a reverb to both the closed and open hats, though I can fit them both in one impulse.

Another cool thing is you can load a preset directly into any of the impulses, so you can have drum sets with drum sets, and use a separate midi channel to control each impulse. Whassup!
