Any plugin that will play chords when hitting single key?

Post by Pat Howell » Fri Feb 09, 2007 4:42 am

I am a guitarist looking for an easy-to-use midi plugin that will play chords when playing a single note on the keyboard. Any suggestions?

But seriously

What would be useful is a way to play different variations of chords based on key combinations, like on ye olde digital piano auto-accompaniment.

But I do not have that answer.

Chordspace Playa is a very sophisticated chording plug:

But surely playing different variation of chords based on different key combinations is the same as actually playing the chord and moving your fingers to play the notes you actually need to make the chord you are after.

I mean a chord is in fact a combination of different keys being pressed.

You might as well just simply learn your chord construction and play them using the keyboard right?

You play Bbm7 and you want Bbm7b5 you press the key that corresponds to the b5 and voila out comes the chord...

The 1.0 version of chordspace is free and i used it to find a chordprogression for a track once, interesting.

Use Lives Chord plugin and use these: http://www.thecovertoperators.org/archives/105

It's the biggest collection of chord and scale presets that you'll find for Abletons MIDI plugins.

There is definitely an echo in these forums... Or I'm not actually posting when i think I am and it's all been an illusion. :D

I do agree though that the covert ops additional plug is the dogs plums. A hell of a lot of work in there!

Every "exotic" scale I've ever come across. This is great for arpeggios, but I still say if you want a chord...just play the chord.

I realise not everyone is a musician in the "understanding chord conctruction and scale theory" kind of way. But it isn't as difficult as you'd imagine.

Check out the theory articles at www.ibreathemusic.com

Yeah I hear you on the chord thing. The old yamaha clavinova I have has some system where you can make all different chords with only 2-key combinations. But then you have to learn the secret code to do that, when it would probably just be easier to learn the actual chords.

But isn't this guy trying to play piano and guitar at the same time

Could anyone please offer me advise how to get chordspace working in Ableton Live 6? I followed the instructions on their site (http://www.chordspace.com/Playa/Live5Install.htm)

I noticed that these instructions are for v5, is there anything different I need to do for v6?

My issue is that I get sound from my vsti, but it is the exact chord that I play on my midi keyboard, it isn't something generated by chordspace.

Thanks!
