New MPC 1000 , give me some ideas

Post by 4amStudios » Sun Feb 18, 2007 1:38 am

on how to integrate it with Live 6 and my work flow. I have been on a week long beer binge so my thoughts are foggy. I need some suggestions to get me going. I produce tech house/IDM.

if you want knowledge on the 1000 and live

copy and paste this phrase into the search function

1000 + Live

also check out mpc-tutor.com <- good stuff there!

anywayz - yeah, I'm from Laurel and my whole family lives down there - I was just in jackson over the xmas holiday

I love it down there

anywayz - good luck

peace

Nice to meet some fellow homies.Man I am 29 and have been out of school fo some time. I made the mistake of attending Full Sail. Anyway, I have been peeping the MPC-Forums, good info. Maybe I need to dig a little deeper for some workflow info.

I'm sorry about full sail.

what did they teach you, how much $ did you lose out.

At least you can operate your own studio to its fullest potential.

Are you using the mpc just for drum sounds, or are you chopping samples too?

is this your only sampler?

Some advice, you can have up to for sounds per pad, so play around with making some really big kicks & snares, and claps.

FS got me after tuition and living expenses for $77K. yeah I am pissed at me and them. Anyway , I will be using it as my drum machine and chopping samples. I have considered selling it and getting a Machine Drum. But will hold out for now.

if nothing else the mpc is a great tactile device that loves to sit on your lap and make you happy, like a lapdance paid for upfront, forever.

The mpc sync's up to Live just great, go to the midi screen on the mpc, set master or slave, no matter, midi clock or mmc. Do the same in Live, options->preferences->midi hit the right facing triangle next to the port where the mpc is connected for clock type and clock delay settings.

Once you get them synced, turn the metronome in Live and on the mpc on and open that midi page, adjust the midi clock delay until the metronomes are in sync.

From there you can play into Live or along with Live. If all goes to shit you can just play into Live and adjust the start/end points of it later.

Like DJAdonis said, the mpc-forums have some great resources. I bought the ebook 'Making beats on the mpc100' or whatever it's called that they sell. Comes with programs you load to use while you read. Even if you know the mpc it's a totally different thing to have used a function than to just know about it. TOTALLY worth your time. I printed out the book and loaded the sounds onto my mpc's hard drive and took it to a cafe to read and play, so handy!

also, do yourself a favor and get RECYCLE!!!

Its expensive for what it does but I'm sure you can figure something out

why recycle....it chops your beats for you - granted the MOC does this but recycle also extracts grooves (midi sequences) - export your slices as .wavs and the midi file - bring everything into the MPC and you're off

oh and did you know you can control REASON with the MPC

assign each tracks midi channel to a midi channel in REASON and you can sequence REASON with your MPC - like what you hear, record that shit back into the MPC...nice huh?

I've had the 2000xl and the 1000 - considering another 1000 (Seriously) but I'm one of the Ableton converts - converted from the MPC to Ableton...had I discovered the MPC after ABLETON maybe my life would be different

funny, I'll probably be staying in Hattiesburg to tell you the truth a couple nights - PM me and maybe we could hook up and I can show you something?

welcome to the mpc1000 + live 6 club!

like tone says, it works pretty well once you get it synced right. i slave the mpc to live since third party waves plugs and uad-1 neve 1081 plug cause the sync to fuck up if its vice versa.

either way, i just name the mpc sequence, the same name as the .als so i can match beats later. usually just record the drums directly now that i have the latency figured out or do it seperately in wavelab if i have to. i pretty much just use it for beats and sometimes, sub. everything else is done with sampletank, kontakt and other various soft synths.

an im in atlanta, so if you're ever out this way... always jammin sick southern beats :P
