If you could have only 10 new features in Live 7...
1. Clip names in Automap LCD
2. Internal midi routing
3. Transient detection mode warp markers
4. Slice to warp markers option which would work with #4
5. Step sequencer with note on/off for each step and parameters
6. Detachable/user configurable GUI
7. Imrpoved performance with complex setups
8. Patchbay - http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=
9. - Folder/group/hide tracks
10. - TBA

Re: If you could have only 10 new features in Live 7...
I was thinking about how happy I am with the tools given to me in L6, and to be hones I'm very happy. I have enough tools to help me create and produce music forever but a few things need to be addressed to reduce the clunkiness that crazy setups can incur.
What 10 feature would end up making you have a little hissy fit if they don't make the cut?sweetjesus wrote:1. Clip names in Automap LCD

I only have 3:
An FX sequencer (Like Glitch Blue) that would work with the effects groups.
A good scratching plug-in. (Seems that is the one thing that Ab Live can't do).
Clip Cue points (Simply making select warp makers that can be jumped to.)

15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

1) fades on clips (cubase style)
2) being able to see what fx are on all the tracks at once, instead of one at a time
3) more than one viewable automation line at once
4) groups that work with a solo
5) multi outs on racks? (not sure if you can do that already, got a feeling you can)
6) an instrument you dont have to pay extra for
7) slicing function somehow
8 ) vast improvement on Impulse
9) improvement of automap so that its fully customisable
10) improvement of CPU performance in general would be good
11) folder tracks would be nice

My Top Three:
1. Warping track generates original track's tempo map to be used (read "DJed") in SESSION VIEW.
2. Multiple sessions (not instances) open simultaneously.
3. Number 1 again.

YES YOU CAN. You can take each chain output.

here's 10 in a very rough order of wanting
I know that some of these have no hope of getting in L7 or even L10 - but it doesn't stop me wanting them. Especially deep changes such as the ability to edit two of more midi channels at once, programming syncopation between instruments is very hard when flipping between tracks. Even a greyed out overlay would help.
- session can hold "arrangement clips" or "meta clips"
- session recording assigned parameters / cc dials
- per track crossfades in arrangement and in session
- To edit multiple midi tracks at once - it would greatly help programming syncopation
- An ableton sound-on-sound looper device, or perhaps a modification to clips so they can take multi-lane audio (which would also be useful for comping).
- midi routing internally (without IAC or midiyoke) and new routing devices (midi lfo device, 'step sequencer device', ' rack send device', 'matrix mixer device', etc
- Impulse improvements, infinite slots, 'gate' mode (no amp env), incorporate some drum synth abilities, because I love them.
- drum maps, or simply name-able notes for 3rd party drum synths/ samplers without rack hacks
- Multiple automation lanes
- time signature automation

1. Folder tracks.
2. Ability to link channel faders temporarily (mixdowns).
3. Track headers colored.
4. Customizeable key commands, context sensitive (ie, key commands that work on any selected clips, so you assign a key to clip reverse for instance)
5. USER ASSIGNABLE DEFAULT MIDI GRID
6. Crossfade clips (overlapping two audio segments renders a new crossfade clip for that area).
7. Default Audio Prefs. So if I unplug my soundcard to work with the MBP built in audio on the road, Live will automatically reselect the soundcard once it's plugged back in. And remember it's latency settings.
8. Groove Quantize.
9. Dragging a clip from a track to the empty space below the tracks in Arrange view should create a new track automatically.
10. Dragging a clip from the project to the browser saves the audio and clip settings only, holding a modifier saves the track settings (effects, etc) too, holding another modifier saves it as a project (current behavior).

heh, ya...buuuut, imagine having an integrated lfo module in live....wow, it would be sweet - subtle lfo's everywhere, great for session view, making your sounds 'breath' .....I think it could have a hugely dramatic effect....especially if you can control the lfo module in one track, but it could have free reign to put an lfo on any parameter on any track....
thats why I think they would charge for it anyways...big impact device...

Every now and then I'll find a UI element that is not mappable to MIDI or QWERTY, and I'll smack myself in the forehead. D'oh!
The first example to come to mind - the Solo buttons in rack elements. I wish I could map those the same way I can map the track Solo buttons. There would probably also need to be an exclusive preference for these.

1. ABILITY TO READ AND ASSIGN gm INSTURMENTS FOR IMPORTED MIDI FILES
2. SMART MIDI LEARNING ON DRUM PADS ( LIKE THE AXIOM)
3. EASIER WAY TO RESET YOUR PREFERENCES.CFG IF YOU HAVE A SET UP ISSUE ( A SAFE MODE, PANIC BUTTON, OR RESET TO DEFAULT SETTINGS)
4. BETTER VIDEO SYNC
5. MORE BUILT IN LESSONS ON REWIRE, VSTI'S
6. A LITTLE DOG THAT SEARCHES FOR LOST FILES AND QUITS WORKING AFTER 5 MINUTES WHEN THE FILE IS CLEARLY ON YOUR DESKTOP ( OH WAIT THATS IN WIN XP)

Computer games don't effect kids... If Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music

I guess I'm pretty simple, but... I'd like to be able to change global time signatures within a set.
OS X.5 MacBook Core 2Duo 2.2ghz, 2Gig RAM Mackie Onyx 400F m-audio BX8's, Oxygen 8, Zoom H-4, Alesis Masterlink, Bitstream 3x

all great suggestions! I only have one, and its more of a silly wish:
In Beat Repeat, once the repeat button is active... it would be nice to be able to sweep the "caught" point, in order to create some granulizing, time-stretchy effects.
i realize this can be done with simpler/sampler/any other sampling plug by automating loop start/length/etc...
but it would still be kind of a cool time-saving feature to have on beat repeat. Or am I missing something that's already there?
