What is the best "sound" you've ever heard?
I'd have to say the grand cacophony/euphony of sounds that are a night at Burning Man.
and
the sound of my son when he was about 2 in such a giggle fit that he just fell over. I wish I had recorded it.

3ghz Pentium 4 (Prescott), XP Sp2, 1gig Ram, Dual Monitor with Matrox Millenium, MOTU Traveler, Event EZ8 Adat card. Also IBM THinkpad t40 1.6 1 gig ram
Beethoven's Symphony no.7 in A Major, Allegretto
the build up is just amazing
and
Stravinsky - Rite of Spring... like oh my god :O

* First time I heard Erik Satie piano pieces.
* Parrots outside the bedroom in Sydney long time ago, every morning.
* Some of the preset sounds in Roland D50 when it first came out.
* Sounds of avalanches coming down the mountains in Himalayas, Annapurna.
* My first born son freezing just after birth.

..?
there are moments
when man and nature come together
in a surround-sound orchestra
one species of bird behind me jamming rhythmically with another species of bird at 2:00 to my right
the horsefly flies by with a doppler effect bending his tone to a fiftth below the distant sound of a tractor iddling
and just in time as he revs up his engine in a melodius cacophony of gears as
two blue jays make a love-dive at 11:00 with a syncopated answer to the grinding metal.
and then just the quiet meadow
and then a lone plane langorously humming, slowly getting lower and lower, occasionally pausing at perfect fourths and fifths with the sound of a far away car engine...
it's ten times better than i can describe it

ups, same happened to me with a lion in gambia. I completely forgot about this until I read your post. Wow, that was shocking!dmacintyre wrote: 12. I once stood right beside a Jaguar in Singapore zoo (on the other side of the bars) and it let out the most blood curdling roar I have ever heard. Primeval chills ran down my spine. Awe inspiring.
At times waiting for the train to Stockholm, there was this train from northern Sweded at times that had to stop at the station before going further south.
The cargo was lead an copper plates.
The breaks made people cover their ears.
I just loved it.
