Bugger, I bought a pair of these about 3-4 months ago. Been ok so far though, fingers crossed...

isn't there a bit in fight club where he explains how his job involves balancing the cost of the comapny denying a fault and a few people going up in flames against the cost of recalling the whole line.

best I can say is get surge protection on them, a lot of issues seem to start with a voltage fluctuation. I thought mine were protected - but perhaps not enough.
the links earlier point to a lot of faults beginning this way.
