Live's Reverb?
I was just wondering what you people think of Live's reverb? I don't find it sounds very good, but then I have little experience of other reverbs. I find it's ok for mangling things with loads of reverb, and ukulele, guitar and mandolin sound quite good with this reverb, but for things such as vocals I find it doesn't sound very good. Is this just me not using all the settings to their full extent, or is it not a very good reverb?
MacBook Pro 17", 2GB RAM; Live 6, Pod XT Live, MOTU Ultralite, M-AUDIO Axiom 25, Electric and Acoustic Ukuleles, Fretless Bass.

I didn't vote 'horrible', but I should because it has some terrible problems.
I want everyone to try something here, something that may scare you If you use it as a default effect.
1: play a mono wave on a track, put a utility on that track.
2: now on a return channel - put a live reverb with a long decay and set to wet 100%
3: now send the wave to the reverb - hear a big reverb yes?
4: press the phase invert button on one side of the utility.
5: reverb disapeared?
Live's reverb is in glorious mono ... that's why. The two mono channels with one inverted, L-R, going to a stereo reverb should still output reverb. But in a mono effect L-R = 0.
A mono reverb. Not exactly a workhorse, go-to effect that. Not since about 1979 anyway.
I reported this during L5 beta testing and was told that Ableton were aware of the issue, but that forum has long gone now. I mentioned it again during L6 beta testing.

use it as an EFFECT on synths (usually with the FREEZE function) to give the sound a certain color not an echo....
It works for some stuff while it just plain sucks for others...
When I a/b the live rev against my waves IR-l, live's reverb sounds awfull,
...even if a minute ago I though it sounded nice... (like the freeze funct. though)
so there you go... fun to play around with....
but when it comes down to closing the mix - Would not use it as my primary goto reverberation effect...
...but that's just me
(would love to see them make it better as Most of the effects I DO use on for mixes are live's' built in ones... )

I've got altiverb 5.something.something, can't remember, but it sounds fucking sweet, comes with loads of presets and really does sound authentic. Live's reverb is ok if you need a synthetic sounding reverb, but the altiverb, to me, is the best convultion reverb out there.b0unce wrote:anyone tried the altiverb 6 demo ?
now thats a tastey vst reverb...
