Going from PC to Mac
I've been using a PC for live Ableton/Reason performing. I've been told many times that "Macs are better" for music, but finally someone convinced me when he said that Ableton and Reason take up less system resources on his Mac.
Does anyone know if Ableton and Reason support Dual Core Processors? I saw a Macbook at their online store with a 2.0 GHz Intel Dual Core and 1 GB of RAM.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Nothing wrong with Macs, but that someone was lying.
PCs and Macs running Live on the same hardware (latest generation Core 2 Duo Macbooks/PC Laptops) use the same amount of resources. Perhaps even with a very slight edge for the PC, but that is debatable. Check out the the Live 5 performance thread (which also include Live 6 benchmarks at the end).
The Macbooks are excellent, but change platform/OS for the right reasons.

I think the benifit you will see from using a mac isn't so much the hardware, or software performance, but the OS environment. If you take the time to really learn and understand it, it is significantly easier to use than Xp. I can't comment on Vista so much but I do know that Vista is very Ram hungry- something to consider when doing audio. Just for the record I don't look down on Windows. You can do everything that a Mac can do and for VST , there are a lot more free plug ins.. It comes down to your OS experience really. I also find Apple hardware more elegant.. Kind of like deciding between a Hyundai and a BMW. They both get you from A to B.mistergoomba wrote:i'm running ableton 5 and reason 3. do i need to update to ableton 6?

To take advantage of multiple cores, you'll want to upgrade to Live 6.mistergoomba wrote:i'm running ableton 5 and reason 3. do i need to update to ableton 6?
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.
