This is so me!

It's encouraging to see so many leaving behind that junk food for the brain known as tv.

This may be looking for trouble but another thing I consider a colossal waste of time is gaming. Anybody feel me on that?

Yeah, cover the TV!! Put its hood on!

Gaming is a big time waster for me. I had to give it up too some 10 years ago. Gaming is just about the most fun, and most unproductive thing there is to do for me. I think it is important to kick back and have mindless fun sometimes, but with gaming can easily sit and waste 12 straight hours in what seems like an hour, and have accomplished absolutely nothing.

I am glad though for the hundreds of hours, and entire summers, spent gaming when I was 10-16. I do think it helped certain problem solving skills, and helped maintain a fantastic element well into my adolesence. Then again, I constantly fantasized about having a MIDI interface for the computer at that age....if I had had Live at that age, it would have been no gaming and all jamming in Live!

All of that being said.....I have beaten Ultima III - VIII, and I own Ultima IX, but havent beaten it yet. One of these days I'm going to devote a couple of weeks to it and finish off the series I began back in 1983 :D

I can understand that TV viewing can be a waste of time and sometimes mindless... But sometimes I feel that it is good to be able to sit down sometimes and zone out and just watch some TV - your mind can take a break from the business and stress of life. Because sometimes there is so much other stuff to do that you just need a break. And a kit kat.

There's a lot of Shit TV, don't get me wrong - But I think there are a lot of great programs on TV (both past and present) - Heroes, Lost, Seinfeld, Simpsons, The Mighty Boosh, Twin Peaks... And good stuff on SBS and ABC. You can watch heaps of cool music videos on Rage, there are always plenty of fascinating and educational documentaries... And film...??? Even without the TV there is still Youtube and the internet, and watching on demand... - the wealth of information and interest available through 'screens' is amazing. Why give it up? A lot of TV I have watched has been somewhat of an inspiration - for my music, my creativity...

Sure, if you are addicted to the TV then maybe you need to address it - but I am glad that there is such an invention as the TV - I have learnt a lot of things about life from watching it, and have been stimulated and entertained throughout my life by the television. I think it's all about finding a balance - and not watching TOO MUCH TV.

It also creates a lot of jobs - I do sound design and composition, and have had a decent amount of work in Television - and I'm sure there are many others here that do as well.

Bit of a rant, but that's what I think.

get yourself a TIVO or a freeview DVR... check listings once a week, record what looks geniunely good/interesting.. only turn it on when you want to watch that specific thing (documentaries from BBC4 are my poison) and only ever watch live TV for the NEWS... let it be another thing you do proactively..

I'm hooked on TiVo been since 2003 <-- that sort of plays into the problem

do you know how brain dead you are after watching 4 hours of South Park (I love that show BTW) 9 episodes of THE WIRE and some random shit your girl recorded

I'm doing good here though - even though I'm mixing in Torq as we speak (getting to know my effects)

the TV'S OFFFFFFFFFFF

but the cold stare of it's 27 inch screen - I can feel it burning a hole in my back

The couch, screams and invitation of relaxation

yet, this digital MP3 "record" is jamming

I'll mix another ;)

Get pictures of Paris Hilton and start taping them over the screen.
