you can even map the switch to a computer key, B for instance, and hence switch with a single key.
Or right-click on the MIDI grid.

errrrrr..... what's the MIDI grid?

Errrrr.... i mean the clip view. Where the midi grid of a midi clip would be.
In case of a sample clip.. Right-click on the waveform to select draw On/Off..

Acchhüm!

My wishlist goes something like this...

- Audio fade in / out / crossfade (long long overdue)
- Proper project organisation (project folders, audio manager)
- Built in audio editor (with destructive editing)
- Multiple automation lanes!
- A way to disable the non-linear stuff in session view for people that like linear arranging
- Much better graphics speed with complex projects
- Numeric entry for all values
- More advanced MIDI editing
- Folder tracks

1. Groove Quantize (with the option of loadingyour own templates). Just rip off logic please.
2. Bezier Automation curves
3. Folder tracks
4. Scissors tool
5. less cpu intensive when running warped / disk streaming tracks.
6. Switch off disk streaming for freeze option
7. Drop samples from ram option when freezing tracks. that way when I have a couple of instances of stylus, some EWQSL Gold and Collossus going on my machine doesn't kel over when I try and add some battery percussion or a big old grand multisample.
8 Release Powercore / UAD1 cards when freezing as well. It seems (i might be wrong here tho) that Live keeps a hold of the VSTi / FX when freezing so i can still only use 4x4 instances of the powercore virus for example. Therefore the freeze function imo could be a lot more useful. . .
9. the ability to select multiple volume faders and move them all at the same time (if i am being a retard and you can already do this please tell me!)

Some other less simple but equally as useful
More intelligence with freeze, would be great to be able to render a freeze and then edit the midi part in one pbit of it n have it redo only the part of the track that you edited with reverb delay tails added. .

A seperate version of live for 'live' use and one for studio use. You already haver two different working paradigms accessed by pressing tab. Why not have another by pressing ctrl tab for example?

And, why not allow graphical customisation for the live version. I.e. you can enlarge or reduce certain components, change the look / feel.

That would totally rock and if combined with a 'live' paradigm would keep both the don't add buttons purists as well as the people like me who fin live amazing and want to use it as my primary audio app.

live is wicked but it frustrates me that it is so limited for studio use. I don't want to export to another programme . but if i keep on having to can we perhaps please have a version that would output a logic file :) or even an acid file as both of those programmes are much better for mixing.

FWIW, here's the stuff that would float my boat :

1) Overlapping clips in the arrangment with auto/selectable crossfades
2) VST hosting when in Rewire slave mode (as done in FL, P5, etc)
3) MIDI controller record automation of clip envelopes in real time
4) Better timestretch quality (i.e. one or more *production quality* modes)
5) Automation improvements including multiple lanes and bezier curves
6) Fix for latency issues (when using Rewire, etc)
7) Bring back the Edit Button!!!

And more...

Have you tried the "Back to Arrangement" button? Or you could de-activate individual clips in Session view.

Cheers

I'm pleased that Live is solid and I know how to use it. The new file manglement system makes me sad. There are dozens of features Ableton should incorporate into Live to step up to other DAWs. There's a forum for this stuff, it ain't here.

The .gif was just something I stumbled across. I like the way the main puppet's eyes turn red just before it goes in for the kill.

Here's another one:

A big red RTFM button on the toolbar to stop people requesting stuff which is already incorporated.

live SEVEN? give me a break. 6 came out a couple of months ago... you kids must have a lot of cash laying around. lets try 'what features do you want in 6.1 so you don't have to pay another two hundred frikin bucks for the upgrade...?'.

Please explain how it works.

It's a great way to totally fuck over your tunes and library

it's not explained in the manual very well

it's not easy to use

there's too many levels of screens in the file management windows

there are now ~8 different file types associated with Live

only Ableton has the ability to make Live packs, others have to make .als files to get the data into the library, rather than just making a .alp file

you do not want to manipulate files outside of Live, otherwise it gets confused

the 'find sample' routine is slow and rarely works (due to my ignorance of how the file structure works)

if you look at your library there's various files there, but only some show up for some instruments, as they should, how?

it's the single most confusing thing about Live 6, it's well beyond the fucked upedness of the little orange dot (I'm ok with the dot.)

I could go on but my hands are cramping.

I would like most of all:

Standard music notation for MIDI editing rather than piano roll, though of course leave the piano roll option for people who prefer it.
An audio editor would be a bonus, but not essential.

Though I gotta say that Live 6 is a great improvement on version 5, particulary the racks and better freeze function. Actually, Live 6 is pretty good as it is and it is debatable if it really needs that much improvement.

.
1: choose File / Manage Files from the menu
2 : press "Manage Project" button
3: choose "packing" fold down thing
4: create a live pack, .alp

I'm pretty sure that works, it did the last time I tried it
