Electro-disco-funk?
Electro-disco-funk?
Being old and a huge funk/disco fan and trying to embrace this new-fangled technology, I'm confused by the seemingly endless number of genres of electronic music.
What am I looking for? Slappy Larry Carlton/Bernard Edward bass, funky drums, cheezy Starsky & Hutch clavinets, Nile Rodgers guitar, lots of Bernie Worrell, etc incorporated into modern music in a way that doesn't require a dance floor and mind-altering substances to enjoy.
Is that a genre? If so, who should I be listening to?

Greetings to all, been around some time now entering the ring
hambone, i suggest you have a look at the "new testament of funk"
sampler series, pretty broad spectrum of contemporary funk, bigbeat
and breaks. Might be a good starting point for further digging:
http://www.tunes.co.uk/tunes/featured/12382.html
http://www.tunes.co.uk/tunes/featured/8772.html
i also recommend you listen to the very good produced funk/jazz/hiphop albums by roy hargrove's project "rh factor":
http://www.amazon.com/RH-Factor-Hard-Gr ... B000084T3J
The genre you are looking for doesnt really exist imo, for example i
listen through loads of discs from funk to hiphop, soul to jazz just to
select very few songs from whole album. Too often i actually just buy
albums to get my hands on one single tune, but im pretty selective
It is more a from song to song personal preference selection thats
happening on my side.
Most of the people around in this forum seem to reside on the very
electronic side of things, so this post catched my attention, as this
kind of music seems to be hardly discussed around here
anyways, i hope that helps!
greetings,
Phil

Its funny. Half of the people I meet cant even say my name right. And thats mostly because people arent sure they should pronounce my name with the dots on the Ö, or without.
Its Bjorn. O as in "awe"
Not Bjurn, not Biejurn, not Bjorm, Not Bjoern and no i'm not related to Bjork...
You damn scandinavians with your blasted Scandinavian names..
At least they gave you a greek name. Lucky bastard
Hambone it sound like what you want is more along the Nu-Disco lines.
Y'know Prins Thomas and Lindstrom, Todd Terje, Maurice Fulton, Bear Funk label, Tirk label some of that kinda vibe? (look on juno.co.uk for some clips and see what you think).
Personally some of that stuff just doesn't compare with original disco (which for those of you who aren't familiar couldn't be further from the Saturday Night Fever vibe that is a attached to it. Some of the maddest, grooviest electronic sounds can be found in disco).
