Live 6 does not sync to MPC

Post by pavelmusic » Sun Apr 22, 2007 12:21 am

Hi folks,

I'm trying to sync two Macs (powerbookG4 and MacPro), both with Live 6.0.5 to an MPC. The Powerbook syncs succesfully, yet the MacPro does not sync at all with the exact settings as the Powerbook. Midi clock send on MPC's both out ports is set to on.

There are several midi-in options on the MacPro, through a Digi 002rack and through a Behringer BCR2000 which are recognised by Live. Both recieve midi data when a midi keyboard is attached or when turning the knobs on the BCR2000. Midi input leds are blinking on both devices so it is clear the MPC is sending out clock (they stop blinking when clock out on MPC is set to off). And in Live preferences sync on all devices is set to on. Oh and of course EXT button in Live is lit.

But no sync?! The upper small square next no the EXT button does not light up like the one on the Powerbook.

Any tips or suggestions would be most welcome.

Thx, P.

Sorry if I didn't read your post correctly - I'm really tired:

Did you plug midi out from your computer to the mpc. For proper sync you need to use both the in and out. If you've done that already, or it doesn't work for you, then try switching on the midi output of the pads (you'll find that toward the bottom right of the MPC's main screen). Set your midi interface to allow for mapping in Live (under midi options), then try assigning a pad to some feature of live (like a clip's play button) by hitting the midi button (toward the top right of Live's screen) and then hitting the corresponding pad.

[I noticed that Live doesn't always show that it's receiving midi from my MPC through the X-Station so I have to simply try this procedure and it will almost always work for me.]

Otherwise, I don't have the faintest what could be the problem. I use an X-Station with a Macbook Pro (2) to sync up with my MPC 1000. Since I'm using JJs hacked OS I can even send various time-codes and MMC successfully.

Here's what I do: I hook up my MPC's midi OUT 1 and midi IN A to the X-station's corresponding connectors. I set my MPC midi options to OUTput (1) as a midi-master. Then I make sure all of my X-Station's midi options (sync, mapping, etc.) are switched on in Live. Then I hit the external button in Live, and then hit play on my MPC: then everything syncs.

Good luck
