+1 for folder tracks!!! Pleeaseeee!! (My mixes look like yours too... I use an empty track as a "separator" to keep things organized. Not to efficient though...).
Also...
Notepad!!
We need a notepad in Live. It should be available in 3 locations:
1. Tools menu: As a global note keeper. It would be saved with the current project. Can be used to keep logs and project-related notes/ideas.
2. Each channel/track: Place it just besides the meter or fader as a little yellow (sticky-note universal color). Button. Click on it to bring up the note. Edit, save, close. Meant to be used to keep track of channel/related notes, such as guitar patches used, cymbal model, pickups, etc. Just like the old piece of masking tape we used on mixers... .
3. As a VST unit. Drop it onto any track (midi/audio). Should be saved with the device/rack. Meant for patch/related notes.
I would LOVE to see this, please.

can we please assign our own shortcuts to EVERYTHING thanks kk...
Yes please. For all of abletons assignability over audio files, the ability to not assign whatever key strokes i want for editing is rather bizare.
let us customize our own editing keystrokes please!!!!!!
.
YES
We need to get full control over our keyboard:
- no more third party (autohotkeys) needed for key combos and re-mapping
- fully configurable user hotkey maps (please for 5 years we wait! )
- ALL interface widgets mappable - not just some - ie. Sample / Envelope / Loop buttons ..
This is the biggest workflow annoyance overall. The idea is that this is supposed to be open enough that we can get control over the interface
easily
There are still these huge gaps with shortcuts and keyboard control
If you can really control the keyboard and the screen 100%, then possible control schemes expand exponentially
Biggest most simple roadblock right now imo
.
Improved Clip Grid hierarchy
A clear (visual grid) difference between beats and bars..
Thicker gridlines, colored background, etc..

Key shortcut > fit looplength to the width of arrange window
When you need to zoom/focus on your loop while editing this would be very useful..
Maybe [Command+Alt+L] ?

Auto clip color
Let's say you've copied a drum clip to the arrange and duplicated it 10 times.
Now you want to edit the 4th clip to make a break or something.
It would be very usefull if that clip changed color automatically when you edit it's content so you know it's different from the others..
very simple, very usefull..

Your ideas are fantastic. I especially like the piano roll one. That's been annoying me slightly quite some time now.
I have some new ones too:
- Fit content in piano roll to height and/or width
- Key commands on how much height you want in your piano roll. Making complex pads and simple basslines/bleeps require different heights.
- Automatically focus last played note shortcut. If I'm playing a weird sample on say c7 and that sounds cool, it would be neat to have a shortcut that automatically focuses that note. Imagine this combined with custom height/length shortcut keys.
- This one should have existed since midi was implemented, but afaik, it doesn't: I am not able to create smooth in-/decreasing lines in the velocity field in the piano roll. It has to be done manually, and this is a major pain in the ass. There should be something like Reason's line tool to do this
- In the quantize menu, there is only "ok" and "cancel". There should also be a "use" button so that the quantize window doesn't shut down and you have to re-open in if you're not happy with the result.
- I've posted this one before, but right-click on scene to send it to arrangement view would be something I need.
- And of course, I need to emphasize how much I need folder tracks, colouring of tracks and scenes and a slice-device (which could be the name of the device as well). An advanced version or even an equivalent of the one in FL Studio would be fantastic
- Last but not least, better support for mind control is needed. I really want the browser window open/close button to be mapped to my hypothalamus
If the things in this thread were to be included, I'd give Live a 10/10 instead of a 9/10
