Crazy but true.

I think that Ableton have begun to market it as such however (i.e. as a full DAW that provides a complete project solution), so are partly to blame for such mistakes, and certainly magazines like Future Music are listing Live as a Cubase alternative.

Very misleading imho.

Live is just Live - why does it need to be an alternative to anything?

To me, Live is just Chaos, creative chaos. It's the only app that can be described and used in that way, it's unique and somewhat is what computers were born for,to make possible things that could not be possible without the existence of a computer.
Thus, it can be improved in infinite ways, but i suspect that ableton, being artists, try each time to reinvent it. Racks are an invention, sampler is an unique tool. So while the main workings of the app undoubely need to get grounded - with some pretty "logic" features, it also claims for visions, which will probably be embodied. So with Live 7 we will find ourselves screaming for more "regular daw features" anyway, while we get some more amazing tools. Chaos, actually. Isn't it what we are all after anyway?

Indeed one of the things i like the most on Ableton is that they allways find an elegant way to offer those popular tools, in a very flexible and unique conception. Live is the most ergonomical, intuitive and looks beatiful, but its very capable too. People complain when Live comes with a sampler, argueing that there are loads of third party VST samplers out there; but personally, i never considered using one until i opened that beatiful and streamlined small window... is so easy and intuitive -i never used any sampler before, and it fits perfect in Live; i would never look for another sampler, whatever more sophisticated than Live's Sampler was. For this reason, if they bring us -lets say- a live vocoder device, i shall be plenty sure which vocoder i am going to use since then, although i already own Orange Vocoder...

I don't think of DAW in terms of specs I just use it (live) as a creative tool.

I'm sureCubase and logic (etc) can do all sorts of things (that live can't) and I'm sure they are great at it. I just like the way live does what it does.

but hey thats just me.
