This is what people are tapping into. There are masses of people watching tv and listening to the major radio waves when they are driving home. Neither the Radio or the TV is helping the image of Black music in its entirety
well I think your beef is with marketing, mate
its poison on many levels - including the one you've highlighted

but dont be suckered into a racial & cultural divide because of marketing...

I think you're missing the point though bounce, you're an intelligent fellow, so you must know how important and powerful marketing is. Lets take it from the point of this thread.

Exactly!! There is no racist conspiracy, people have simply changed their tastes. They are bored with boybands and girlbands, they are bored with hip hop gangster thugs, they are bored with lemar style rnb. There has been a well catalogued re-emergence of guitar based music since the 1990's.

There is no "anti-coloured folk" agenda on the TV, because being anti-anything costs TV exec's money. What they are interested in is maximising their profits, and they do that by pandering to what is most popular at the time. Right now, it is bands like Kasabian and The Kooks who are popular.

And I don't care how much you disagree, Bloc Party have had some major success and major media advertising put behind them. And only one of their members is black, so it was a crap analogy to bring up to begin with.

I dislike the rise of the indie band though. Most of it is rehashed garbage. Kasabian's first album was good, their second is shit. But even their first album is clearly "inspired" by the music of Oasis.

well, like I said - I'm not an expert on TV-------because I think its poison, and I think in that respect my point is proven by your comments on this topic, the lack of black artists etc....there's a slew of reasons I think its wrong [today's network TV as a whole], and actually has a negative effect on people.... I'm constantly berating certain TV shows for the effect they have on people especially regarding seriously important socio-economic/political issues.

I really have nothing else to add to this with respect TV...
but I think in a capitalist society, its the bottom line that rules....and that fucks everything up, including TV... All I can do is encourage you not to put it down to white V black, because there's absolutely no reason we cant all integrate. 'divide & conquer'

If they are bored with this type of music, why are black people who produce this type of music shunned as well?

I assume you mean why are black people producing this new breed of music being shunned. They are not. The only example you have offered is Bloc Party, and as I said, only one person in that band is black. The three others are white, so Bloc Party are as much white music as black music. And Bloc Party have also had a lot of publicity through advertising, television appearances and so on.

This in itself should prove that there is no such thing as white music or black music and that those are just labels that people use for the purposes of segregation.

Look, offer me some more examples. I genuinely believe that black people are not shunned, and if I am wrong, I would like to know.

Ps: I saw Dizee Rascal on Jools Holland a week or two ago, along with Grinderman. Both were pretty cool!

Which basically looks like to me that you have no examples. I think you're paying too much attention to the media outlets and not enough attention to your heart.

And hey, I'm not meaning to be offensive, just a discussion we're having right?

Personally I couldn't give a fuck if my favourite bands have media notoriety or not. What I care about is whether they mean anything to me or not. If they don't, then it isn't aimed at me, and I leave it alone.

Peace man.

ALL achievements and breakthroughs in ANY profession, art or science, are built upon the often un-sung achievements of other, perhaps harder-working and more 'deserving' souls.

Such is life. Try to suffer gracefully.
