Oh, and compressing for radio is just absurd. Most stations compress extremely heavily already. You would not believe the huge level differences that get ironed out on the back end with brickwall limiting.

Radio is already going to squash the shit out of your music for you - you really don't have to do it first.

They mention Californication. Glad to know I'm not alone. I love the songs in that album, but ever since I discovered there's an awfully annoying distortion in most tracks, specially caused by the vocals, I haven't been able to bring myself to listen through it ever again.

Can you imagine Dark Side of the Moon all compressed to shit? Blech!
As someone on here posted a while back....without hardcore limiting, you can actually turn it way up and loud parts will be REALLY LOUD!!

Yeah, compound this mastering problem with crap like mp3 compression and iTunes's automatic compression nonsense....it'll be amazing if some people can still hear in 20 years.

It's amazing to me how many CD's are clipping all over the place when you look at the waveform....it seems common practice in many circles to just go on ahead and flatline the sucker. Many an excellent album ruined!!

At least others recognize the issue. It's up to us as the next generation of musicians, producers and engineers to make sure this doesn'tt continue, and to make sure other people understand why louder isn't better.
