Very small but audible click on screen draws... (solved!?!)

Post by bouke » Thu Jun 21, 2007 10:29 am

Hi,

I've tried looking into these forum to try to find a solution but I seem to have an odd problem. At the moment I have heavy screen redraws, I can hear small clicks in my audio. It's really getting annoying. I can reproduce the problem when taking one of the splits (between the piano roll and the session screen) and move it up and down like a maddman.

I do not have this with other hosts. So it seems Ableton related. Disabling the multi core support doesn't help. I'm using a PC with the NI Kore USB, but it's also there with my Focusrite Saffire.

Thanks!

Hi,

Could it be that your mouse is USB also, and would conflict with the USB soundcard somehow? This kind of a problem always sounds weird, and is generally a 'stupid' system conflict, rather than a software 'bug'.

Could be. My mouse is USB... I did try to plug the USB sound card in an other USB slot, but I sure could try the same with the mouse. I'll keep you updated.... Still strange though: it doesn't happen in other DAWs like Renoise?

I've tried quite some things but without result. But things are getting more strange though: if I open the task-manager which forces itself to the front, if I then do my thing (moving a split up-and-down) it doen't click!

When I minimize task manager, move split up-and-down, clicks appear.
When I open task manager, move split up-and-down, clicks are gone.

I don't need to run task manager all time to get these annoying click gone don't I? Do I need to send an official 'bug' report? I've bought Ableton for (in my standards) a lot of money, and I sure hope this could be solved...

I've just tested the mouse thing again: if I start a song and have the screen 'folow' the score (so this does a lot of screen draws), I can hear the clicks. Without even touching my mouse nor keyboard.

I've solved the issue (but it's more like a workaround)!!!

I've changed my graphics accelleration. So 'Right click desktop, Properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshoot'.

There is a slider: Hardware acceleration. I've put the slider just one bit to the left. The 'Disable cursor and bitmap accelerators.' setting (I guess it should say: 'Use this setting to correct problems with sound clicks and crashing firewire interfaces in Ableton Live  ). I'm not using this PC for multimedia or games, so this workaround is fine for me.

But still: this is only happening in Ableton. I'm also using Aodix and this one is rock stable even with Hardware acceleration set to Full.

I have no clicks in my NI Kore and no crashing Focusrite Saffire.

Please Ableton, could this be fixed?
