my new 17" macbook pro is dead on arrival :(

Post by dango » Fri Jul 06, 2007 12:02 am

i have been so skeptical to gid rid of my desktop and go with a lappy, they seem so fragile and more prone to fuck ups. but i finally went for it.

bad enough apple sends it via fed ex ground instead of kicking a few extra bucks for it to go 2day air. but when it arrives i fire it up and half the screen is black and it will not boot. i know they will make good for it but shit man, now i have to remain on hold for the next hour probably then send it back and wait for a new one.

i guess now is my chance to get rid of it and get my cash back. I already went out and bought a 23" apple monitor to hook up to it to. lame lame lame apple.

that sure sucks...

unfortunatelly the statistics point to increasing doa...

just don´t take it too seriously or personally...
wrap it up, get it replaced asap,
and take advantage of the waiting time to organize all the rest of your stuff,
you surrely are not going to do it when your new mbp arrives !

good luck

apple is usually really good about fixing things like this to keep their customers happy. I would let them know how inconvenienced and unsatisfied you are by this whole thing and they will likely hook you up with something to compensate.

well i got a couple hundred dollars refunded to my card and got them to bump the return and resend shipping up to 2day air. I hope the new one works.

would someone care to share a happy macbook pro story with me? i just spent 2 hours at mac's user forums and it seems every thread on the MBP is negative :(

i am thinking of just keeping my 20"iMac and iLugger bag and refunding the MBP and 23" mac monitor i got for it. i do not want to have to live in fear of my computer.

can a laptop go for at least 2 years without problems? or is it a given your monitor or HD will go within that time?

tip: charge the battery up first or plug it into the mains, then press the power button.

My first MBP was giving me weird kernal panics randomly the first couple of days, returned it to the store and I got a replacement on the spot, no questions asked. Got home, and that one had it's CPU fan clicking against the case, and then it just stopped. (!!!) Drove back, got another replacement asap no questions asked and it's been working fine ever since. A little frustrating at first, but so worth it, and Apple really did do a good job with replacing them fast and easy.

The reason you don't find any glowing positive reviews is because people don't post at all if things are going well. I'm sure there are thousands and thousands of perfectly satisfied customers (myself included :D)

Laptops can go for 2 years. My last iBook has lasted 3 so far. Of course, it went back to Apple Care twice, and currently needs the monitor fixed. Good thing for Apple Care.

Never had one problem.

I'm pretty happy about that.

Runs fast, cool, and flawlessly.
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

i recently got a macbook (not a mbp) and after having it for a couple of months the only problem i'm having is when i'm running live and my fw 1884 through firewire the cpu temp gets up to 150 degrees and the fan goes up to 5500 rpm (which is usually around 2000). gets kind of loud. but it doesn't shut down or nothing. just gets hot and then cools itself off. i've also noticed every time that has happened i have had safari open. coincidence?
Macbook 2ghz c2d, 2gb ram, osx 10.5.5, live 8.0.8, fw-1884, ms20, x-session, 2xLP

My PowerBook G4 is rocking hard for almost 3 years now. I just want to upgrade for the necessary speed to keep up with Live 6, but I'll keep this one for other tasks.

Happy.
