Ive been running purchased and properly licensed and activated Live 6 for quite a while now and a few days ago it decided it wasnt happy with its integrity. Also I have never run a hacked copy of Live at anytime in the past either - or for that matter any other cracked software.
Initially Live 6 just failed with the copy proection violation dialog, so I reinstalled it which fixed it for a while. Then it came back again after about 30 mins of running.
As suggested by Ableton support, Ie fully uninstalled and deleted the license file, uninstalled older version as well, fully re-installed and re-activated etc. Was fine again for about an hour then threw the same message up.
Now it allways launches OK, but anywhere from about 5 minutes to about half hour after starting it, it gets unhappy and does the copy protection violation thing.
Im allready in touch with Ableton support about this but they are stumped as non of the usual causes they know about seem to apply here. Our thought was possibility of a virus, but Ive running loads of different scanners and they all are happy my machine is clean. Im quite happy the machine is clean as well as it just doesnt get exposed to that kind of risk.
I have used imagecfg.exe to force live to allways use CPU #2 as it runs alot better, howvere this is not a recent thing and its been runing fine under that configuration for a month or so.
Hence why Im posting here in case anyone else has had a similar experience that could not be explained by viri or cracks and might have found a solution.
Platform is a Pentium D (dual core) basd PC running XP+SP2 and Live 6.0.7.
I have a whole bunch of plugins installed. I did wonder if its one of the recently added plugins. Other suggested cause was hard disc problem, but again, diagnostics say my HD is fine.
I dont particularly want to reform this PC, but that is an option of course.
This also happen with or without anti-virus software active - did wonder if that might be interfering...
I dont know the exact mechanism Live uses to protect itself, but it does seem as if something is intermittently interfering with it - any ideas?
Thanks

Nothing to see here - move along!

my immediate suspicion is the windows registry.Khazul wrote: I dont know the exact mechanism Live uses to protect itself, but it does seem as if something is intermittently interfering with it - any ideas?

even when you uninstall, things get piled up in there.
which is why even microsoft themselves suggest a complete
rebuild every 6 months.
