Excuse my ignorance - I've never used a midi controller before...

Can the pads on the microkontrol be used to trigger samples in Live?

If so, is it set up this way by default, or do I have to use my brain?

I do not own a MicroKontrol, but I have several colleagues who do, and this is what they tell me. The MicroKontrol pads can be programmed to send Note On / Note Off messages. It is my understanding that Note On / Note Off messages can be used to trigger samples in live in the Session View. If the aforementioned statements are true, then the answer to your question is yes.

If you haven't done so, download the manual from Korg's website and read it. I am sure it will tell you if the pads can do note on / note off messages.

for me... Im crippled w/out my drehbank...
64 knobs layed right out in front of you...

as simple, or as complex as you want it to be...
and you can program ANY midi message to be sent from it... on any channel...

Half of the knobs for live... the other half to your synths or whatever...

You wanna tweak? this is the way to go!

uc33e and x-session... 40 knobs, 9 faders and a x-fader.
What more could I need?

yes, the microkontrol pads can snd note on/off messages. thats how i use it at gigs. it is a great toy [toy=tool]. and its real purty too. looks hot in a dark club, but i do wish it had some of those little LEDs on it that the uc33 has on each fader.

Hi there,

i own a Novation Remote 25 a little bit over a week, and i think its really great to use it with ableton.
it works really fine.....you can control so much thing in one time.....you can preset 127 buttuns.....faders and potis inclusive....+ the 2 octave keys.......

i think i love it.....and i need more plug ins....

One feature of a controller that I can't live without is the ability to have all my controls set to their start positions when I open a Live session. I could *not* do this with the PC-1600, but I find that I can do it with the Command8.

My question is: which other controllers can be made to behave this way?

The thing I can't handle is when I open and start a session, and then touch a controller, and the position of the mapped controller in Live jumps to the current physical position of the MIDI controller and then adjusts from there. This is quite disruptive while performing.

If there's a smarter way to improve this workflow, I would *love* to hear about it!!

Man I got the Evolution X-Session USB controller for $119! Heck the demo version of Live even came bundled with it. The thing has a tiny footprint and yet has plently of assignable knobs and buttons on it to crank up any session in Live. It even has a crossfader so you can fade between tracks in Live. Between that and all the stuff you can assign to the keyboard you don't need spend hundreds of $$ on bigger gear.

me too. I bought it in a bundle because of the a.m. cross-fader and the buttons (I already have a Doepfer drehbank).

I'm a bit disappointed about the cf (toy-ish feeling) but the rest works fine, especially the knobs have a surprisingly good movement compared to the drehbank-knobs which still are better though (my 2 cents).

all in all a good investment.

I will put in another vote for the Drehbank. As another user said, best $450 I ever spent on gear. The thing is a fucking tank, and there are 64 (x2 banks) knobs right there at your fingertips.
