I use winAmp/switched from iTunes cause my iPod broke. Winamp is faster, possibly the fastest for Windows. Also check out Monkey something or other... monkeymusic or whatever.

Cheers.

It's not free...and it's for OSX...but Audiofinder is the bollox. It plays anything and you can do anything to anything that plays.

it will be itunes again whenever they have native flac support. For now I'm using Cog. But it's not very feature rich. On PCs it is foobar2000, hands down.

Everything in foobar is fully configurable, and it is up to you, what you use. It has a components folder where you put the components you like to use. Look at the foobar website to check out what's available.

Nothing can top foobar, and there's is not surprisingly, but sadly nothing on OSX that could compare to it.

ok i'm looking at the foobar website and apparently it entails copying code from here and there and putting it here and there, does anybody have a link to where i can just download some fully put together skins or whatever foobar calls them, shit i'm trying to make music and listen to music i don't want to build an mp3 player.
and thanks for the tip i'm already liking the simple default layout that i installed

also keep'em coming folks any other obscure little jems out there, while we're at it I've got a mac too so what's good on the other side of the pond?

Just click once in the lower right corner in the foobar window where the db/loudness level is diplayed, then the volume slider will open.
Even works for volume control with ASIO drivers.

and +1 for foobar
