wait for live 7?
I am about to buy live 6 and have no idea if all these live 7 rumors and threads are even remotely true. Am I safe buying live 6 right now, or is 7 gonna be on shelves next week or something random like that? does Ableton do grace period upgrades at all?

They're waiting for you to buy Live 6. Then they'll announce/release Live 7. So hurry up already.djradiorick wrote:I am about to buy live 6 and have no idea if all these live 7 rumors and threads are even remotely true. Yes, if it came out the week after you bought or something like that, there would most likely be a grace period for a free upgrade to 7. (At least that's how they've done it in the past.)djradiorick wrote:is 7 gonna be on shelves next week or something random like that? does Ableton do grace period upgrades at all?
Now if you're hoping for a free upgrade 2-3 months after you bought 6....I don't think I would count on that.
this kind of question is often akin to "should I buy X processor because I've heard they're about to launch the quad cores..."
I always tell people not to wait or play crystal ball. buy it, be confident about it, and deal with the future as it unfolds...just that simple...
If v7 did come out in two months, oh well, you're SOL...wait a few months longer before upgrading.
As it stands, I don't anticipate a real v7 update till NAMM in Jan08. Just my personal opinion.

what neb said. as a rule of thumb, forums are nice for testing the water a little, but never make any real purchasing decisions based on them. the only kit purchase decision i ever made based on forum opinions was to buy a motif rather than an ion. that was a bad idea. the motif was a fine machine, but totally wrong for me at the time. this was when i didn't know what i was doing (as if i do now).
so, yeah, if you want it and can afford it, get it NOW. then wait a bit longer to upgrade. there'll be some kind of offer like getting a discount on operator with the upgrade around new year or whatever. there often is. i got live 4 about a month before the announcement for 5, so i missed the grace period, but i didn't really regret it. i just waited a bit.

speaking of which, oh great father-o'-the-forum, in about 125 posts or so, how big a mad props thread are we gonna have?!?!?!?!forge wrote:no I'm the only one that wastes as much of my time on this forum as he doesnebulae wrote:is that some aussie jedi mind-control shit?
many have come close, but none have reached the same heady upper echelons of Ableton Geekdom
question is; can the counter handle 5 digits?nebulae wrote:speaking of which, oh great father-o'-the-forum, in about 125 posts or so, how big a mad props thread are we gonna have?!?!?!?!forge wrote:no I'm the only one that wastes as much of my time on this forum as he doesnebulae wrote:is that some aussie jedi mind-control shit?
