OSX on a PC desktop
OSX on a PC desktop
Here is a list of compatible PC Hardware
If i could afford a mac i would but I am an exchange student so I'm
living of the gunk that accumulates under my fingernails.
But I own a Logic Dongle that cost me about $3500 including upgrades
since Logic V2. yes 1996.
I also got dsp-quattro
I want to build a PC desktop to run a dual-boot system and have
Ableton songs launch in OSX with Logic for my MixDowns + Extra stuff.
and run Final Cut Pro express for some video editing to try and get some
work and make the most of the opportunity to develop my career while i am here.
If you have any advice about Motherboards, Graphics cards etc.
that you have experienced working well with OSX.
Please let me know.
I will post my results.
Cheers

check out forum.insanelymac.com. If you are not very computer savy I would not even bother trying this.
EDIT:
I did the whole OS X thing on the PC. I used Asus P5B Deluxe/Wifi motherboard with an Intel Core2Dou E6600. Was pretty straight forward for me to get it working after spending lots of time reading and research. It is doable just pic your hardware very carefully. I use ATI 1800GTO and ATI X1950XT video cards and both ran dual LCD monitors under OS X with no problems.

It is very possible but it is illegal. I wouldn't recommend it cause it's not stable.
Save up, buy a Mac, then dual boot.

so instead you'll buy cheaper mishmashed hardware that is barely even supported
in windows, and then illegally steal an entire operating system (or two)
and then try and use it for music creation without having lots of silly problems?
good luck to you!
Um... when you put it that way. Um... No.gomi wrote:BinaryB wrote:I simply do not have the money to afford one.nebulae wrote:my guess is that the headaches you will suffer will only cost you more time than worth it for the money you'll be saving...get a real mac and be happy, make music

Please relax and go back to what you were doing before you decided that I needed to hear your opinion about this.

do you want to make music or do you want to be a computer geek pretending to make music?
if you want to make music, get the best most stable platform you can afford. which is probably something on pc for you at the moment.
if you want to be a computer geek, playing with multiple and unsupported Operating systems, then do so. but you wont be doing anything resembling music making.
your call

Quite a few suggestions that it might not be the best thing to pursue if i want to do any serious editing.
Thanks people, I'll take that onboard as good advice.
