sync through usb/firewire?
sync through usb/firewire?
surley a midi interface isnt needed to sync two computers up together? would it be posible just to do it through a direct usb/firewire connection?

I agree.
there is an app around for transmitting midi over ethernet on osx, but the timing is still a problem in my limited testing.
firewire should have mLan support, which has heaps of midi. the other thing is that Apple is cooking up networking via firewire too, i think that should be available soon.
Really this should all be possible wirelessely, and in fact I don't know why we are still relying midiclock.
Two machines should be able to sync much more accuraty then that, and send info like time-signature changes.
Even though most tcp/ip etc is not really built for realtime, surely it could send data like the expesive midi interfaces do...transmit this midi note at 12:29:0004 pm etc.

with Open Sound Control support by Abletons, it would be possible... on an ethernet (or via wireless!) and in real time...
