Transform/chopper effect?

Post by JoeSchubert » Thu Sep 27, 2007 2:09 pm

Y'know, sorta like the effects that are on many tabletop cd spinners...i'm looking for that effect. Know what i mean?

You're gonna want to try some kind of gating vst effect. Try KVR. Or automate a volume envelope...

thanks! i'll check it now...i tried to rack my brain to find something silmilar to it in the manual and the effects. but to get that nice 16th trans feel similar to james zabiela or the likes, i feel automating volume may be a tad shaky...i'll check the places you mentioned...thanks!

or you could try a square wave LFO on amplitude/volume, but i actually don't know how to do that in live

Auto Pan. Trust me, it's the one-stop shop for choppy stuff.

destroy fx's midi gater. it gates audio using midi input. so you can make a bunch of transform type midi clips to gate audio on another track. also has settings for attack, decay, gated volume, and is velocity sensitive (i.e. the louder the midi note the louder the sound coming through).

yes, that's a very good plugin, but in many scenarios it isn't that much more suitable than simple dummy clips.

Literally just delete the audio where you want the sound to cut out and it will give that effect. You don't need an audio effect and I guess you could automate a volume envelope but its way easier to just deactivate the clip or multiple clips where you want it to cut out. Hope this makes sense/helps!
