Firewire drives for LIVE (and VST)

I am choosing between a LAcie pocket drive (5400 rpm) and a LAcie mains-powered bigger hard disk(7200) for use with LIVE (as well as CUBASE VST)

The pocket drive takes its power off the laptop, which would be nice and simple for me, and is also smaller and quieter.

Hower it is slower.

Does anyone have experience with these drives, and can recomend one or the other?

Laptop G4 mac. Applications LIVE, and cubase with some sample based Virtual instruments down the line maybe.

I would buy a Firewire Harddisk with 7200 rpm I got one and it Rocks...!

I want to know too.. cos i bought a LACIE firewire hd at 7200 but it`s so big and heavy to use it with the laptop on the stage (live acts).
Is good a pocket drive at 5200 (firewire) for audio storage for ABLETON LIVE????

CORRECTION
The Pocket drive is 4200 RPM, not 5400 I believe.

Still on the lookout for a total battery-less solution though.

Yes, all laptop size drives are currently 4200... 5400 models are only now being developed

Actually, there are two 5400 rpm minidrives available - the IBM Travelstar 48 and 60 gb drives are fast and readily purchaseable.

For speed and price per gig, you're better off with a powered 7200, but for convenence, the firewire bus-powered 5400 48gig is pretty great.

is the pocket drive quick enough to stream oh say 12 clips of 16 bit audio??? or would you be better off with a powered 7200rpm drive???? i\'ve got a motu mproject but id to get something more portable for live gigs, if any one is interested id sell the mproject and an 828 cheap togeather or seperate, email me. bcivitelo@earthlink.net
