I've just checked that Live 7 will be released soon. As Logic 8 and Reason 4, Ableton have to make new version too.
... But : everything done for the next level will be put in an update. As I'm an owner of Live since version 4, I've pid for version 4, 5 and 6 (each time : 99 € !)
All I see in version 7 is improvement of many bugs and missed elements since live 5 (REX file, better midi sync, video export, better RAM management, etc)
And what about the handshake between Ableton & Cyclin'74 ? I hoped so much to see MAX/MSP objects integration in Live 7... That's a great improvement ! Even a better way to experiment things on Live rather than fill hard disks with tons of gigabits of samples !!!
Well - I'm not worried : I'm just getting mad !
See Ya' all !

The ABLETONIANS ARE NICE PEOPLE.
If you don't like Live, you can use other sofware.

I was thinking of drum racks + native sidechaining + nudge + video export...even though video export is studio, it will make it easier for me to make that kind of content for live use. I guess it is more of a studio update though...

Of course, I haven't even had the beta yet...

Propellerhead Reason launched in 2000, and now Ver4.
Ableton Live launched in 2001, and will become Ver7.
(not to mention other full featured sequencers like DP/Logic/Cubase...)

although ableton ware too rushed version up with small amount of new feature,
every major update was attracted to me.

1st, there are always supreme feature in major update, at least one.
2nd, there are also always "surprise didn't get in since ver1' feature, less than three.

So I was couldn't resist buy every update until now. :>
I'm also llittle bit discontented with frequent version up.
Because mostly I'm buying for missed basic feature, more than new feature.

But also I think there is no lack of CRITICAL feature for music making,
since V5. (except time signature change.)
So simply you can bypass V7 and save your money.
But you want it. Isn't it?
Me too. :>

Maybe we can feel better if you pretend 2 version as 1. :>
2 year is not long term for major update.
Lots of added/improved features are there.
198€ is too pricey for one upgrade, but instead we can get pre-release version in the middle of 2 years, as bonus!

this bloatware heralds the demise of ableton as a serious player

justin frankel will knock out a live-killer in a spare 15 minutes in early 2008 and sell it for $15

you guys are all idiots
