Which is the best music production software ?

Hello friends,
greetings to all those musicians who have used multiple softwares for producing music.I am new into this arena and have started working from a small home setup(PC) using Live 6. I have seen my friends and fellow musicians using softwares like Cubase,Nuendo,Sonar,Logic(Mac),Pro Tools(Mac) etc. I gathered that Cubase,Sonar,Logic etc. is widely used for programming and seqencing music.Pro Tools,Nuendo etc. for mixing and mastering and finally a software like Live is very popular amongst the DJs.

I tried reading up more on these various softwares on the net but did not find any info as to which software overall qualifies to be the best or the most popular amongst musicians all over the world.

It will be very helpful if anyone in this forum can enlighten me and millions of other upcoming students who want to pursue a career in electronic music production.

There is no "best" for everybody, there is only a "best" for each single person.

With other words, depends on personal interests, taste, needs, music style, etc

For example back in days, i was a die-hard atari user with cubase on
a 12 inch black/white screen. This was absolutely the BEST for me. I
loved it, while others were using pentium 3's already.

Nowadays things have changed and looking at screenshots of the
old atari cubase, i can't imagine i produced even 1 bar with that software.

You already have live 6. Exploit it has it's fullest. The less you have the more you'll do. Really helps being creative with less toys around.

i agree. i think live 6 is the most user friendly software for a beginner like me. thanks.

Everytime I get a new toy it's at least 2 weeks until I can start making music again.

Seriously, I just got an R3 two weeks ago, and everytime I sit down to make music I just end up tweaking/saving patches. Now I'm finally starting to get into the groove of things again.

Less is definitely more when it comes to being productive IMO. I try to keep my gear purchases to once or twice a year, and only during downtimes when I'm not working on songs anyway.

It's a shame that Ableton has made all the new add on synths so much more expensive to the basic package. With the new synths, you could easily have a complete production environment in one easy to learn package, which would be ideal for beginners. Sadly, the total price makes this a VERY large investment for someone new to producing.

yeah man - dont just assume because all the other sheep say x or y is better that means you have to have it

you have Live 6 - if you cant make good music with Live 6 you should quit and do something else

then when you have spent long enough to know what you're doing then you will know what it is you dont get out of Live and you can make an informed decision

but for $119 US to upgrade to Live 7 you can do heaps of great stuff!!!

next year I think Live 8 will be the most mature version when they sort out the workflow things we have all been waiting for!

that's only a year away, plenty of time to get really good with Live 6 or 7

I'm on the fence between a full upgrade to the Ableton Live 7 suite vs Logic 8 Studio.
