Too high latency?

Post by oolceeoo » Mon Nov 05, 2007 2:33 am

Hello everyone. I have a 3ghz Pentium 4, 1GB RAM, Sound Blaster Audigy soundcard. What I am trying to do is record in real time guitar, bass, and vocals.

The problem is that I cannot get a low enough latency without hearing the dropout. I am using an ASIO wrapper (ASIO4ALL). If I set my buffer size to anything lower than 1024, I get drop outs.

The problem is at this buffer size, my in latency is 23.2 ms and out latency is 23.2 ms. Total becomes 46.4 ms. This is way too high! I can't record the guitar because the latency is way too much and it throws off my playing.

I have a Fostex VF160EX 16 track recorder that holds all my instruments and is connected to my PC with a optical cable.

If the problem is my sound card, what sound card can I buy that has an optical in/out AND has low latency for a decent price?
