Stupid question!!

Sorry all, but this is gonna seem like a really dumb question.

I am new to Ableton 6 and and not very impressed with the built-in synths, especially from a bass perspective. Can you recommend and good .vst plug-ins or can I purchase Propellorheads Reason and use the .vst plug-ins that come with that?

I'm looking to make dance music/electronic sound based.

Ableton doesnt have any "built in synths" with the base purchase per say. Simpler is a sampler with some sythn functions.

It has Operator, but you have to pay for that seperately (and I recommend that you do, its wicked)

Operator is capable of putting out nearly and sound if you know how to use it (like any synth really), becuase of the different routing options, it can act as a 4 oscillator analogue synth aswell as a FM synth.

But anyway, there are litterally hundreds of good VSTs out there, though people will tend to agree on a few most people will have thier own opinions on whats a good VST based on the way that that particular person uses them. A couple of ones I rate are:

impOSCar
minimonsta
Predator
Albino

If you are a total noob then you are better off learning how the synth works and working out how to get the sound you want out of it than expecting a magic synth to have presets for all the sounds you want. You need to pull presets appart and work out how they work.
Try not to fall intot he trap of collecting loads of VSTs and only using a tiny portion of each one.

I personally use Operator for nearly everything in most of my tracks.
