Live skips first beat upon recording audio

Hi folks,

I am new here, and I have already found many answers to my newbie questions about Live on this Forum.
Something I havent figured out yet though, is why Live skips the first beat of every audio recording.

For example, take when I try to record audio using another program running in re-wire. I set the count-in to 2 bars, hit the record button, and after 2 bars Live starts recording. When I play the track, the very first beat is missing. Like on a basic 4/4 kick snare drum track, the kick on the first quarter is missing.

When I record my guitar, instead, the first beat is recorded, the playback is fine, but the first beat is skipped when I render the track to WAV.
That is obviously very annoying.

How do I solve this problem?

I am using XP pro, accurately tweaked , on a notebook with 2GB RAM, plenty of HD space, 1,8GHz Intel Centrino duo; the interface is an M-Audio Fast TRack Pro, set to minimum latency.

Could it be that you're hitting the first note early so that it's not in the pattern, but just before? Did you look at the midi notes in the clip?

It happens with Live and any plugin that uses small internal buffers, and it's system- dependent. Some systems will, and others won't.

Question 1: Is the first beat really missing, or did Live just assign the sample start time 1 beat too late?

Question 2: When you render, is the first beat missing from just the start of the song, or from the start of every loop?

Question 3. If its the start of the song, can you fix this by moving the arrangement view start/stop brace a little sooner (giving you what should a a beat or more of silence at the start of your rendered file)?


I assume this is all audio data... and does not involve MIDI data from Zebra or other synths listed in that kvr forum....

Hi,

it's supposedly a bug in Live 6.x that affects all synths who properly clear their effects buffers when the song is started. What happens is, the message upon which the buffers are cleared (and envelopes are released!) comes in *after* the first note event - thus the first note gets cut off.

Upon request by some users I have build a version of Zebra 2.2 for VST Windows that doesn't clear buffers:
