Hello everybody,
I need help:
I want to send midi data (midi notes of a drumloop/created in LIVE) to my Roland MC 307 Groovebox.
I've tried to make the Groovebox receive data from LIVE via midi:
Groovebox says: "receiving", but I can't figure out, what I have to do to make LIVE actually send the midi notes to the Groovebox.
Are there any preferences I have to change like setting a special midi channel for bulk dump??!
I would be very happy if anyone could tell me what to do!
Thanks,
Nikos

To send midi notes from Live to Roland, hit play.
What you want to do is translate your Live file into a Roland-native sequence?
I am pretty sure Live will not do this.
I'm not sure about the roland 307 groovebox... does it have a computer editor program? That is probably the only way to send that roland-specific data back and forth between your computer. And I bet if such an editor exists, it can't load Live files. Maybe it can open .mid files, maybe... but I dont think Live can export .mid files.
Sadly, when you make sequences on the 307 itself, it is responding to the actual pads being pressed... I don't think you can use Live to fool it into recording what Live is playing.

I guess one more thing I should clarify:
setting up the roland to receive MIDI makes it ready to accept "sysex" data. System-exclusive data that comes in a format the only Roland307's recognize.
MIDI data that Live sends is not specific to the roland, its notes than any MIDI instrument can respond to.

The only thing you can do is put the groovebox into record mode and record the notes as they come in. Live does not handle sysex dumps or anything like that. Downside is that the notes will of course not be on time, and you will have to slide them all forward in the box to compensate.
