PORN FILTER Yes or No?
I don't think this has anything to do with exclusively porn. It's about the useless junk.
I vote yes for the captcha of first posts and new usernames. That will catch 90% of the porn, spam, viagra ads, etc etc...which is more than enough for this forum...and a huge step up in and of itself.
I vote no for moderation.
And I vote no for banning of curse words. I don't know any music forums that have banned curse words, so I don't know who came up with that brilliant idea.

several other forums I've cruised have banned them as well
the best I saw was foxsports - where ever a curse word would be the actually put the word BLEEP
funny - but it's real

head on with thisTone Deft wrote:that's a problem.
what age are you talking? I couldn't imagine growing up with the internet and the messed up adults like myself that are on it. kids today have to grow up fast. I doubt there's much on here that a high school kid hasn't seen and knows to avoid.
honestly, I couldn't imagine a few angry parents posting/writing to Ableton about the open nature of the forum. good for Ableton for being so loose and care free but with that comes responsibility.
there was no real internet for me either growing up
but I had to grow up faster than my parents did and my kids will have to grow up twice as fast as me
growing up my parents tried to hide my precious eyes from things I shouldn't see but that didn't work
now with the internet - you can literally type the word "P*ssy" in your browser and I have a feeling one will pop up - that's a long way from going to the corner store Asian owned video store to rent a Christy Canyon VHS <- which entailed me lying about my age - a 15 year old claiming to be 18 (yeah, right)
anywayz - you can moderate the forum, run scripts that detect curse words or create another hoop for noobs to leap through
that's ableton's call
but the forum's general section is no worse than the Hotmail inbox I STOPPED using because it became flooded with the raunchiest spam known to man (well at least me)
you know what - if I stopped using an email account because of spam, perhaps I'd stop coming to the forum because of spam. I like the forum, Ableton doesn't like me, I bet they keep the spam up

It's human nature to want the freedom to post whatever they want. But my question is, why here? There are porn forums. There are political forums. There are religion forums. But there is only one official Ableton forum. Shouldn't it be dedicated to, well, a certain piece of software and the music people make with it? A porn thread is the same to me as a political thread... wasted screen space to be avoided. Lets get some mods and if nothing else, separate the General forum from the garbage with an Off Topic section. Moderation is not big brother or taking away your rights or anything else... it simply makes forums like this more useful.

expecially that ableton still had no official word about that
There was still no official word about it because we are still discussing the issue, thanks to your heads up, and did not come to a conclusion yet. Be assured we are paying attention to the spam situation. A problem with phpBB plugins can be security, as I understand it - but I'm myself no expert.
We do remove spam threads as soon as we see them as for now. I and others have bring the situation to the attention of the people who are able to take the right technical decision, so please allow the time to come with a proper solution.
Kind regards,
Amaury

More useful...to you. Me, I like discussing politics and anything under the sun with other music obsessed fools.the Fearsome Fearful wrote:It's human nature to want the freedom to post whatever they want. What I don't like is robots swooping in and leaving turds behind. There's a difference.
Personally I think it's getting to be out of control lately. It looks bad on all involved, and if Ableton can't get involved due to oher priorities, then at least ask some of the more regular and sane posters to act as mods and delete those thread asap. I think there a clear distinction between censorship and keeping spam bots at bay, and Ableton is dropping the ball lately.

Thanks for coming back!
I think that the obvious solution to this problem is really simple: Simply start
using one of those whatchamacallits... captchas for new users, and delete
already registered spam accounts whenever they post something new.
Bam.
As for those of you who want to ban "swear words" - cut the sanctimonious
bollocks and get real. The whole idea that two particular four-letters which
refer to two of the most natural phenomena in the world - faeces and shagging -
should be so horrible is beyond me. Actually, semantically speaking, the
words are totally devoid of meaning when not referring directly to the two
phenomena mentioned. They're just exclamations. Time to break out of that
tired, old mindset.
Then again, I know that the Abletonians are way too progressive to install a
filter that denies us the possibility to express ourselves freely. Now I'll shut the
fuck up.
