question about applying slower attack to a bassline

Post by slatepipe » Sat Dec 15, 2007 4:00 pm

hi

i dont know whether this is possible or not but my heads a bit cloudy today and i cant figure it out at the moment....

i have an audio file of a bassline looping, recorded from an electric bass. for me the attack on each plucked string is a bit fast, i would like each note to possibly fade in slower so the notes drift or morph into one another better.

anyone have any tips on how to apply slower attack (if thats the method i should use) to each note in this bass loop?

many thanks

im using live 6.10

Reverse the sample, fiddle around with gate release, comp and a short fat reverb. Resample and reverse it.
Si, no?

If you've got Recycle. Slice the loop and then you can set a slow attack on every slice.

First of there is a shit load of ways to do this.....Simpler,manually via volume env.,
are a couple of the top of my head.

BUT i recently got a great result using a simple one note bass drone running through an auto pan with the quantize to 1/4 with the and using the phase to "drift" the note a little to give the track a "chugging along" effect.

Then i went through and unlinked transpose loop and worked in some note changes to keep it from getting too boring.

It took maybe 2 minutes once i realized what i was wanting.I think this is the most flexible way for me at least.

I wish simpler wasn't such a chore.

vol clip envelopes is how I'd do it if you wanted to get really nitty. If its a live bass, each note would be different, so you wouldn't want a blanket solution.

Better yet, can you re-record it? ;)

Another convenient and effective possibility:
Apply this plugin (freeware) and turn the big knob to the left.
