Cpu in Live 6.10 rises to 37% when i press play/stop

Post by musicmachine » Mon Dec 10, 2007 11:41 pm

Has been for a while. Not much of a problem just not sure why it's doing it and i'd like to resolve it if i can.Has anyone else experienced this? Will anyone actually reply?

I'm running 6.10 on a 1.6M,1.5G ram with onboard graphics. It's only when ipress play or stop then it settles back down after a few seconds. It's only when i've got a project loaded as well,it doesn't happen with an empty project.I can't say it's a specific plugin as i'm using FM8 in the current one and i only updated recently.Could it be the plugin buffer?

TIA

Can someone from ableton help me?

Ok it is a problem.I'm getting cpu spikes when i press play or stop.move audio in the arrangement view, click on a point in the arangement to trigger playbackor move the loop brace. As soon as i click on a anything the cpu shoots up over 40%.So it seems like a graphics bug. It's a problem with a higher cpu load as it will max out the cpu load.I couldn't use it live like this.Like i said i have onboard graphics but would that cause such issue with the cpu? Thanks

Is this in a big set? I have this very same thing with large sets only. The bigger the set, the bigger the CPU spike whenever I do one of these:

1. Stop the transport

2. Start the transport

3. Highlight a clip that causes the playback point to jump from somewhere else. If I highlight a clip with the same start point as the one previously selected I do not get the CPU spike.

4. On the start point of a loop with the track looping.

I assume that Live is preloading something to stop it glitching. But if the CPU load is already high this extra load can cause audible clicks.

This was more noticeable here today, too, as I started to mix a larger project. The spikes are very noticeable and aren't in proportion to the CPU load one would expect from the stuff on the channels ( it's shooting somewhere over 60% for a moment and then comes down again).

Yeah i have quite a few instances of FM8 but not all playing.I'm going to freeze the tracks i'm not using and see if that makes a difference(which i should be doing anyway). At least it will reduce the cpu load

What you've described is exactly whats happening to me so it looks like it is something live is doing, but what it needs to do when i press stop i don't know

It's causing audio glitches when there is already a high cpu load here too.I guess it's not my graphics then as your using a different card.So the question is,what is causing it?I thought i was the only one, maybe an update gone wrong or something.

Maybe one of the abes can shed some light on this?

You also have quite a different setup to mine so it looks like a problem in live.Which plugins are you using?I wonder if it is something to do with the plugin buffer..

Hopefully someone from ableton will see this and give us free updates in the spirit of xmas
