bought the exact same model a couple of weeks ago. Awesome machine, some problems when it comes to Live though, it kind of conks out when you get to 60% cpu which is apparently something to do with the speedstepping of the proccesor.. so you'll probably want a program called coolbook (only $10) to get the cpu running at its best. I'm going to stick 4gb in mine in a few months. I cant tell you enough how cool these machines are, i dont know why anyone would want a Macbook pro or any orher lappy over these little beautys. have fun.

I looked it up because I am a PC laptop user who is thinking of going MBP route next time.

The fact that MBPs don't have crappy ram stealing integrated intel graphics is one of the main reason's. And some people don't wish to go blind squinting their eyes at the crummy 13.3" display in the macbook. MBP's ram is on one stick and not 2 dimms giving you an extra slot for expanding memory. And the aluminum look is cooler than the made in china plastic look. MBPs also support dual monitors at a higher resolution.

The graphics thing for me is a biggie. Integrated graphics on a tiny screen wouldn't work for me.

I was surprised that there was not more fundamental differences, the macbook is better specified than I thought it would be.

13.3 is big enough, however the back lit key board on the mbp is boss

i really need a new laptop, i'm tired of trying to squeeze it out of my trusty g4 for production... but with leopard in its' early stages, and macworld in a few weeks,
i figure i should just hang in there and deal with it just a bit longer...

got one of each... both are very nice, however i do like the pro a little more. i got my wife this macbook about six months after getting the pro, to keep her off of mine  as it is not very portable any more, what with its wires and such. now i can keep it off the web, save for updates. so for casual usage i'd wholeheartedly recommend the macbooks. but for music, i think the pro holds a few advantages, esp the keys for those who use live live with key commands, express card for future expansion, and of course the screen real estate. but i am blessed. any member of the mac family is a welcome addition round here :D

My current laptop is 17" so going down to 13.3" definately emphasizes the SMALL screen. Being somewhat myopic, I find the bare minimum acceptable screen to be 15". Those with better vision might find the 13.3" screen acceptable. unfortunately I am not one of them.

The back lit keyboard is a cool effect but I could live without it.

As for installing microsoft stuff, for some of us, especially people going cross platform, it is a necessary thing. I haven't found any Apple only product that covers what Microsoft Office can do (except Microsoft Office for Mac).

And bootcamp has impressive figures running windows programs. Don't close yourself off to all your options. Mac OSX is a nicer, more stable o/s but there are a lots of commercial grade programs that cannot use it if you are coming from a windows background. Including a lot of your 3rd party vsts.
