version control-like features

Post by djscorchio » Mon Dec 24, 2007 11:57 pm

I just lost the results of a huge MIDI recording session (that happens when you're tired and press Ctrl-S after Delete too fast :S ) After saving there is no undo of course.

In my opinion undo/redo after saving would be nice. A flexible system for storing previous versions of sets would be even better...

Undo history

The two features that would support this could be copied as-is from digital performer, but I'm not too sure how well they'd work with Ableton.

- Undo History. In practice, automatic version control with branching.

- "Soundbites". Meaning, everything you record is always stored as it's own clip and as it is, even if you'd record over it again and again.

IMHO, especially the latter is a dumb idea in Live environment and fights against the idea of never losing the *good stuff* - if you do, you're using Live wrong.

Undo history might be nice, but not enabled by default since it would deal a potentially quite severe performance hit.

Undo history would be perfect. I don't really need more complicated stuff
