This may well be user error since I'm completely new to Ableton but I can't figure it out.
I just got Live Lite 6 with an M-Audio Keystation 61es controller, Windows XP says it's connected and working correctly, keyboard and speakers are turned on, volume is turned up. Ableton is working correctly using my laptop as a keyboard but I can't get the midi keyboard to work.
If I go to the Midi tab of Ableton Preferences the M-Audio keyboard isn't listed, in fact there is no input listed at all.
Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

You need to put an instrument in a midi track, arm it for recording and see if you are getting input on the vertical line of dots in that track. If that works and you hear things you are all set. I am not in front of my PC w/Live installed so I can't give you anything off the top of my head for the MIDI tab. Look in the manual.

Thanks for the reply but I've done all that. As I said, if I play using the laptop keyboard it works fine so the instrument/midi track is set up correctly. The only thing I can find in the docs says if there is no communication between Ableton and the midi keyboard you should go to midi prefs and configure it. My keyboard doesn't appear there so I can't configure it!

OK, You can play on the laptop keyboard. Do you have the midi connections correct? i.e. midi in to midi out, and vice versa on the keyboard? Also one thing I have noticed is if you are going to use any device via MIDI/USB it should be turned on *before* you fire up Live. Especially USB devices. It won't see them last I did that. That's how I figured that out. It should work if you're connected properly. I use an MS20/Triton Extreme 61key or Roland V-Synth via MIDIMan MIDISport 2x2 (MS20 via M-Audio USB Uno) and have no problems as long as they are connect right and powered up (MS20 specifically).
