Hi,

What computer/system are you working on? Also, can you give a step by step instruction to reproduce the crash? That way, we can reproduce it, and fix it if we achieve to get the crash. So far, what I've tried is:

- put an audio clip in the arrager
- select it, or part of it, and "duplicate time"
- right click on the copied part of the clip, and select "Slice to new MIDI track"

And got no crash. What are you doing different?

Hi support,

I ve been dealing with this problem more than 1 month now and have contacted the support too.
My PC (HD Pavilion a6040n) has Windows Proffessionel since 2 days. I reinstalled everything!
I let a technician come and check the PC and installed all latest drivers!
But same problem as before the reinstallation of the system!

This is the problem

When i work on a bigger project with about 20tracks, 90% MIDI tracks,
I start arranging the song by copying or duplictaing all clips in arrangement view. I just use Plugins, all legal!
This happens unexpected so sometimes it works and then it crashes.
Either I copy, duplicate, resample audio or wanne slice audio to midi
a box appears saying either, "not enough Memory" or "Serious Error"
or "Runtime Error" or nothing and the program crashes.
Thats all i get and when I restart the program and I want to perform the same tasks it happens right away. I tried 2 different Interfaces, I adjusted the Buffersize like in the tutorial and much more,
really, I love Ableton but things like this interrupt my workflow and I have to finish remixes and tracks for the label...Ich bin mit den Nerven am Ende!

Gruss

Hi,

Can you try it with the beta, and, as you say it also happens, send us the bug reporting package that will be created on your desktop, the next time you start the beta. Send it to [email protected] please, with a reference to that thread!

Also, does it depend whether the track where the clip you're trying to slice contains any plugin?

Ableton 7.1 Crash "Runtime Error"

Post by xyandrej » Wed Jan 30, 2008 12:46 pm

Hi,

no it doesnt depend on what plugin I use or if I use one.
It happens with Audio or with midi.
I have talked with many other 7.1 users in other Forums and it seems they all have the same problem with 7.1

But yeah I will do the beta thing.
Hope in that time u can figure out something.

Thanks

Hi,

Is the bug related to slicing? In that case, slicing can only happen with audio clip, so, it can not "happen with MIDI". Or are we talking about a different bug?

No, the same bug only happens when

-slicing audio to midi
-duplicating or copying audio or midi
-recording external signal or resampling a track

Hi,

Alright, I see. It might be that the symptom is the same, but the bug is different. Please try to work a bit with the beta and send crash packages. That's the best way to see these fixed.

Well, a way to find out if the problem is related to the external HDD would be to temporarily work with an internal HDD, and see if the crashes still occur. Where is your Library, also on the external HDD? And your sample collection?

On a related note, is the USB port you use for the HDD configured to NOT save energy?

Having the same problem myself with Live. I noticed that sometimes after the runtime error occurs and when I open the affected liveset a popup box appears with an error saying cannot decompress program data. Furthermore the presets used in Rapture VST are wiped and are left with empty patches.

If when I re-open the affected track and say for example try freeze a midi track the Visual C++ error will reoccur.

Another problem I'm having is an error saying I've run out of memory, usually with a lot of active tracks.

These errors occur randomly and persistently, It really messes up my work flow.Being honest this happens at least every other hour.

I would love to see this rectified and will send all data needed to whomever.

Have downloaded the Beta, fingers crossed.

Cheers
