Yes, I take my time and alongside practice choice of words. That keeps me from chosing improper expressions sometimes which later I have to edit away. Although, I do tend to edit my posts rather often, I have to admit.Tone Deft wrote:btw my tip to you is that your posts are ALWAYS waaaaaay too long. but you've generally got a good attitude.

Right b0unce. Before you go off on a tangent. Keep in mind that I just came across this post when looking for "hoffman2k + berlin" when trying to find a picture.
But the irony is so big, I cant let this slide.
Even you will get a laugh out of it, i'm sure

If there was some way I could prevent myself from seeing their words it would be great
although, as a consumer, I think its better to have these forums open and without moderation ....you can get honest feedback about a product that way.
for example, the sony forums are completely locked and you cant enter them unless you enter the serial on your computer or laptop, by the time you reach the forum to ask a question about your problem - you see hundreds of people experiencing the same thing and ripping on sony for being cunts. and sony of course dont post in that forum....
i usually suss out a forum for a while before buying the product.....as a consumer, I dont encourage that anyone gets banned....I want to know who's pissed off and why

I love you to dude.Pitch Black wrote:I love you
There are a lot of points to be made, but the biggest is that the "receiver" (of whatever dialogue) is most responsible for their perception of it. b0unce outs many dudes on that. Most take the bait and react, others glide on it and respond or go back to their beats without a skip. b0unce and his ilk enjoy reactors. Especially if the reactor loses their cool. But that ain't on b and the other aggressors.
The Individual is responsible for everything that the individual feels and does no matter what. 100%
Forget about how people are supposed to be. Just let them be it and you be what you want to be and try not to be so insecure as to be hurt or at least marginalized. Forget it, move on. Just jump forward a couple years in development as person who's in control no matter what others say/do.
The biggest enablers of this hostility are the ones who react and can't move out of their own way. Don't ask for respect, just exemplify.
There is no better way to disarm aggressors. Gandhi had it right.
Ya know, it takes a MUCH bigger set of balls to say I love you than fuck you. I would say Pitch Black has bigger balls than b0unce.

Not to feed this too much anymore....
My point was and is that Nebula feeds his own frustrations (hence his calls for peace) with his attitude and actions, (like changing the thread tittle in a bid for control... again)...
This can be applied to Timur as well. You decide that language is an issue, well, then it's a personal problem to a degree. To me, the main objective when reading anything is to get the actual information out of the words. Somebody posting long well thought out prose can be a pedantic, patronizing control freak as easily as someone posting 1337 type internet speak.
For someone who has english a a second language though I can see your point, but in the middle of explaining it you throw out obvious jabs to what effect I don't know? I'm trying to imagine what sort of useful and constructive end posting sentences like this come to?
FYI, I've played guitar in rock bands most of my life, and own a small construction painting company. I'm not offended by your words because it fits me, but because it doesn't matter what you do with Live, or your life for that matter to me. It matters to me how you treat other people. Whether or not it was your drumming teacher who said it, you posted it to insult people. That it was patronizing would be being kind. I don't think you want to be that person, even if you take lessons from him.
@Tone, thanks for listening to what I was saying.

What I'm saying is it doesn't matter how elegantly you put something if the end result is the same get my meaning? That one paragraph at least is as filled with hot air and useless information as anything posted by somebody using street language. It's not the language, it's the intention behind the words that matter.Timur wrote: Yesterday I mentioned to a real-world musician (my current drumming-teacher) that I'm active in a forum and only after mentioning the word he tried to exorcise me from that wicked behavior and insisted that I shall not be wasting my time any longer with a bunch of home-bound computer-geeks who hardly ever saw a live-stage anyway (his words not mine).

You are right, and I am aware of that, including my choice of words and content, plus who might feel insulted by it. The content and form is chosen with the thread and its participants in mind.Machinesworking wrote:I'm trying to imagine what sort of useful and constructive end posting sentences like this come to?What I'm saying is it doesn't matter how elegantly you put something if the end result is the same get my meaning? Sorry to be bumping this thread...
You're saying people should take personal responsibility for their own well being, but that just reads as an excuse to act how you wish without regard for the consequences of your actions (and there are consequences here). Excuse me if I'm oversimplifying or misrepresenting, but I am at least attempting to understand your point of view this time instead of just blocking you!
People who aren't long-time members of the community , who e.g. come here because of technical issues/researching a product/search engine hits etc. aren't aware of the atmosphere or quirks of this place. They don't expect to get insulted for no reason, and they shouldn't. Now maybe you don't insult newbies, but passive reading of the threads still gives people an idea of how welcome/unwelcome they are. On any moderated forum (boards.ie anyone?) you know you'd have your ip banned, and it's kind of cool on Ableton's part that you're actually allowed to be here.
I'm out of this one, I'm not going to spend any more time on it, so you can have the last word.
Machinesworking I see it like this: Intention = content, language = style. I take pride in my first language (ignoring the whole Irish discussion for the moment) - I know enough spanish to have a basic conversation, a couple of words of german and a couple of words of french. I'll probably never be as good in any written language as I am in English, so I might as well make the most of what I do know.
You found Timur's post annoying, to me it was a pleasure to read, like almost all of his posts, although I think he's being unrealistic about what the forum is 'for'. He's a top forum member in my book.
Personally I enjoy reading and constructing sentences which to me flow rhythmically in a certain way. It doesn't hurt to expand your vocab, you know? <- not meant insultingly.
Kore, eh? If you go to the Kore forum you'll find two unreplied posts I wrote making a fairly long-winded point about topics that a minority of people will care about. Would more people have read/responded if I'd dumbed down my language? Probably! Do I care? No! Because the only way to get the fucking words out was for the information to flow from me in a certain way.
M'eh. I can't believe I'm still replying to this f*cking thread!!!
b0unce wrote:I see.
My theory on the hostility question: it's most likely down to profanities and nothing more. Kind of odd that a grown man could be so sensitive, regarding your 'power of words' bit ..... ANYONE so sensitive, and knows they are, should take personal responsibility for their own well being. If people's words effect you, probably not a good idea to be an attention whore on a public forum etc.
I wrote: but to suggest that everyone who visits here 'has it coming' ... that's fucked up.
My logic was that everybody is here because words affect them. No words: no forum. Not great logic, but then I'm not thinking straight today. Oh well. I won't lose any sleep over it.b0unce wrote:No, you're fucked up. that is a gross misrepresentation of what I said.

I have been trying for sometime to find a topic to keep a thread going for even two pages and even a day and a half...whew!
Neb...if you were a news reporter/talk show host, you would be making some serious dough!
I envy you man!
I also apreciate when people can speak freely about what they feel inside. This feels like family...no kissing up!
At the same time let us protect our self moderating privilages and hope it has not gone too far this time.

well putrozling wrote:No. The troll killer script was written by Nebulae among others, as far as I remember now, because the level of abuse he was getting from b0unce was getting a bit out of hand. Actually b0unce seemed not to post too much for a while after that, and to be honest (I know he doesn't mind) the forum *to me* seemed to be a better place for a while. Once the troll killer script was made, there didn't seem to be a need for it at all.UKRuss wrote:forge wrote:...
I've recently started to block b0unce, and only him, because sometimes (most of the time) the way he goes on here is just not worth the hassle. I don't feel bad about it, I know he won't mind, and I probably won't do it forever. I come here to hang out with musicians and talk about shit, generally to relax/feed my brain, and I find the majority of the time I won't learn from what he says (my fault perhaps) and it will literally aggravate me, even as a passive reader/lurker. But if I have seen an interesting topic that I think that particular user's thoughts would be interesting to read, I'll unblock. I don't really see how any of this could offend you?
I did unblock him for this thread too - and he made a valid point: what hostility is Neb referring to? The Nazi thing? I will admit I avoided the big Winehouse thread but after seeing some of the suicide-related threads recently it has been a bit of a wake-up call that the words we write here (and they're only words*) can have a direct and major positive or negative impact on peoples' (musicians') lives.
TBH I don't really need a reason why Nebulae made the request. It's a perfectly valid one & it's a shame more is being made of who said it than the point itself.
*and words are all I have to take your heart away.
the troll blocker thing is rarely used and it is really only for when someone gets excessively stupid and never has a good word to say
I am more and more convinced that b0unce is actually Dr. Jekyll - he can actually be completely normal sometimes, but then he takes his potion and turns into this demented rottweiler that barks at everyone and can very quickly make a total mess of things
but more to the point, I have enough demons of my own, I don't need some dude I dont know on the other side of the world insulting me - not good for the soul
so I go through phases to - when there seems to be some kind of interesting discussion it gets turned off, but then if it starts getting stupid again you only need click the X
there are one or two others who I have never seen write a single reasonable word and they just stay blocked
