yes, he's going to be an extra target under lots of scrutiny over dumb shit

so will Hillary

but the fact that history is being made as we speak in our lifetime is exciting (I'm 32)

I honestly believe who ever the democratic party sends to Washington they'll make a difference for the better

I hate to say it but this countries in shambles

we're looking at a recession
people can't even stay in their homes let alone buy one
the countries no safer than it was (it's worse off) before 9/11
1000's of soldiers died in Iraq and that countries no better off than it was

curious, have we even co e close to catching that one guy in Afghanistan?

it's all bad

I feel kind of sorry for the next president

they're going to walk into the white office to a desk full of problems

but at least things will be different and I have a feeling it'll be the good kind of different ;)

Huh? The good president isn't the one who's doing the assasinating.

Anyway, it's a rhetorical question. Just an observation.

Yeah I gotchya... my statement was intended to imply the inverse logic - rational assassins who target elected officials are generally bad people, who work for bad people. Bad people don't like it when good people, Presidents or otherwise, meddle with their agendas.

Most folks who are governed by a sense of morality draw a line at murder. While they might feel that someone deserves to die, they are generally going to be pretty reluctant to pull the trigger. Those who have more flexible moral boundaries have fewer obstacles to asserting their power over others.

This is a fundamental flaw within the organization of society - those who would wield power not for the greatest good but rather for less lofty goals are ironically better equipped to seize and maintain their hold on that power. Their primary concern is controlling power itself through deception, intimidation, or other forms of manipulation. Those who would be their predators generally share similar motivations and can therefore usually be appeased or otherwise controlled themselves; the biggest bully in the schoolyard often has his cronies and patsies.

The primary concern of a good leader is morality. By creating policy based on this primary motivation, the good leader may directly threaten the agenda of those whose primary motivation is control of power. If the threat becomes unacceptable, violence is their logical course of action.

'The best leader is the one who does not want to lead.'

Ah yes now I see, you did get me there! I understand the logic now.

Great post, an interesting sociological study which also explains the answer to my rhetorical question.

I like that

it's true as well - the people who you look to sometimes for leadership aren't leaders

they're just people doing the right thing the right way

I feel that

Good presidents? How 'bout: Reagan? Garfield? Taylor? Nixon? Ford? And, lest we forget both Bush's.

It's just a dangerous job - but still safer than 'Rock Star'.

Besides the stockpiling of nukes, Reagan wasn't so bad...

I didn't know all of those! I must have missed the news about the Bush attempt, it mustn't have made much of a buzz.

Well, maybe I should have said the ones who actually were assasinated. I can't name all of them but that's probably a little better statement. I'm thinking Lincoln, Kennedy...

fuck yoooouuuuu!!!

Regan gutted our nation's healthcare, supported both sides of the Iran/Iraq war, shat over over Central America supporting coups, taking resources and abandoning the people, raised the deficit dramatically, appointed Scalia to the Supreme Court, lowered taxes to bad in '81 his tax hikes over the next 6 couldn't make up for it, sooo much shit.

just cause you weren't paying attention doesn't mean he was a good president. what an idiot!!

do you ever shut up?

blah blah blah blah I have nothing to say blah blah blah blah blah

anyway, more Reagan shit...

Reagan also bombed Libya, put the "war" in War on Drugs, allowed the continuation of Selective Service registration (despite his campaign promise to end it), helped the Khmer Rouge terrorize Thailand, imposed brutal trade sanctions on Nicaragua, funded the murderous brutal Contras, sold missiles to Iran, gave assistance to Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, and lied to the American people.
