This issue was raised in the beta forum (now closed - or I'd post this there) but there doesn't seem to have been a response from Ableton (http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10872).
In 3.0.4 you could also press control before clicking. Please can we have this back.
Control-drag in 4.0.1 is a step backwards from 3.0.4
