Any workarounds for a Enveloper (logic) effect in live?

Post by LOFA » Wed Feb 06, 2008 6:02 pm

Pardon my lack of creativity atm but I wonder if there is some way of simulating logic's enveloper, raised-release sort of action in live.

I don't even know if I can accurately explain this effect in words. I love the results but as of yet do not complelty understand the process.

EDIT: Thanks guys for your feedback.

Yep. I meant to type "Enveloper". I just got ass-raped by a web-hosting site and I am a tad distracted.

Here is a video of what I need help with: http://www.macprovideo.com/player/playe ... mov&snum=3

No, there is no video of the ass-raping.

you might want to try the compressor on the FF1 setting, heavy ratio, and play with threshold, attack and release settings. maybe combine it with a little bit of creative sidechaining too.

you could also just make some clip envelopes, though that would probably be tedious as fuck

Thank you very much for the response.

I will check out the FF1, etc settings. I thought about the creative side-chaining as well, in fact that is exactly what I meant at the time of the original posting about lack of creativity. I suppose this would be a great opportunity to explore options though I definitive answer could be both helpful and potentially make a positive contribution to the tips and tricks section.

I thought about the envelopes also. Tedious sounds like a great way of putting it.

The free Bitter Sweet plugin by Flux comes close to what Logic's Enveloper does, though a bit different in that you can't adjust Attack and Release behaviour independently.

Thanks man. I am trying really hard to wean myself off of logic. The bits help a lot!

I am considering starting a thread for people to consolidate lists of free plugs to compensate specifically for where Live's DAW features fall short of Logic's mixing/mastering plugs.

The sidechain feature in the gate plugin will let you do not only that, but also it will let you determine different groove feels to your "pumped signal"

If you compress the signal then add a slight coloration (saturator, tube, etc. whatever you feel like) followed by a sidechained gate and fiddle around with the controls you will be nearly there or somewhere better...

Excellent idea. Here's my first contribution:

Mastering: Multi Band Compression
SSS Multiband Compressor

It's an excellent plug-in, I use it a lot. It allows you to use detailed multiband settings without necessarily squashing the mix to bits. Available for PC and Mac.
