MBP Bootcamp XP Config (asio4all, latency config...)?
MBP Bootcamp XP Config (asio4all, latency config...)?
(i'm newbie in the audio DAW configuration world)
I have a Macbook Pro 2.2GHz and just created a Bootcamp XP partition to run only Live 7. My main questions are:
- Should i install Asio4all?
- In Live Preferences, what is the IO Buffer Latency & Driver Error Compensation?
I've also a M-Audio Fast Track USB for recording, should i use it normally as sound output? With(out) Asio4all?

Re: MBP Bootcamp XP Config (asio4all, latency config...)?
If you get low enough latency without it, then there's no need. But I get lower latency with ASIO4ALL than I do with my native Echo drivers, so it might be worth a try if your latency's a bit higher than you'd like.ik80 wrote:Should i install Asio4all?

First of all, why you'd use Boot Camp for only Live when it runs just fine on Leopard is beyond me, but that's your decision =)ik80 wrote:(i'm newbie in the audio DAW configuration world)

I got XP Home just so i could run Fruity Loops again and play with all my old tracks from the '90s, but that's besides the point
To answer your questions:
1. Yes
2. Read the Lesson on Audio I/O in Live's Lessons menu. Take notes.
3. Try both ways. Personally, my Firebox has ASIO drivers, and I believe it would be a bit redundant to wrap its WDM into ASIO, but to each their own
Finally, go to www.musicxp.net and do everything they say there.

damn double post...
you will nowadays have to create a login for music xp (why, i don't know)
just do it, and click on tuning tips and follow.

Re: MBP Bootcamp XP Config (asio4all, latency config...)?
Thanks for the replies people!
This is what i've done:
1. Config my: ONBOARD SOUNDCARD
(since i will mess around sometimes without my external hardware).
So i did the following:
- Installed asio4all.com
- Adjusted my XP Bootcamp to the Tuning Tips of musicxp.com
- Did the I/O Lesson on Live 7.
The bad thing is that even with the maximum buffer at 2048 from asio4all i still listen to cracks in the Test Tone at 80% CPU Usage.
Do you people with MBP & Bootcamp have this latency?
What is the preferred Asio4All & Live Audio Settings?
My Live Audio Preferences:
- Audio Device: ASIO4ALL v2
- Channel Config: Input (1/2) - Output (1/2) [no recording needs yet]
- Sample Rate: 48000
- Buffer: 2048 (from Asio)
- Driver Error: 0 ms
My Asio4All Settings
- Buffer: 2048
- Checked: Always Resample 44.1 <-> 48kHz
- Checked: Force WDM Driver to 16 Bit
- rest is Default (32 samples i/o latency & 2 kernel buffers uncheked)
2. Then i installed the latest mAUDIO FAST TRACK USB Driver
and plugged my FastTrack in...
My Live Settings:
- same as above expect:
- Buffer Size: 256 (from Fast Track)
Test tone at 80% CPU is clean & continuous!!!
i'll definitely use my FastTrack all the time... although it would be nice to get a decent latency with Asio4All + Onboard MBP Realtek HD Audio.
ps: i read somewhere this can be because of the GS Wavetable MIDI in the XP SP2 Audio Settings... anyone know about this???

uncheck resample and force 16 bit and see if that helpsik80 wrote:Thanks for the replies people!
