Mad Latency Problem

Hi OK I tried it again..Total uninstall..Then install from the Live7 disc..Then update to 7.02...
So MacBook Pro,,2.16 ghz intel core duo processor..
Tiger OSX,4,11....1GB ram
Personus Firepod connected via FW 800 connector..
M-Audio Axiom 61 connected to the left side (power connector side) via USB2...
Live pref.s
512 buffer,,,,24 bit 44khz
Either with or without multi-processor selected (same results tried both)
Latency was almost immediate...Changed buffer size to 256 and back to normal
Lasted about 10 minutes before about 1/2 second latency again happened..
Switched from no multi processor selected to multi....Same results..
I am running One instance of Zebra2 and One instance of Addictive drums..
It happens so randomly that I could give almost any case scenario about just using 3-4 instances of Zebra2 and having it happen..OR with both 1 Zebra and 1 Add drums..Swithching patches on AD can make it occur whenever...Or switching patches on Zebra...It doesn't matter....
Again this latency occurs when I select eother AD or Zebra and try to trigger them via the keyboard..But again only after a while....I just did this with as I mentioned 4 instances of Zebra with a 512 buffer...Three tracks playing one note sustained for 2 measures..All 3 playing a patch with a sequence assigned in Zebra..
Then loaded the fourth instance and played a simple bass patch..Instan latency..
This is so random I can't figure for the life of me what the problem could be..I would be utterly delighted to find a simple solution..One that is a real stupid error on my part..GLADLY own that one...
However if I do the same things as above using a buffer of 256 in Logic Pro8..I never experience this at all...
So I am back to square one...So DOM hopefully you will read this thread and see if you or someone at Ableton are able to reproduce this anomaly.. JON
And thanks Timur for your reply..Glad you didn't take me the wrong way.. I appreciate that...JON

I have the same problem and it´s not only midi. I also have the problem when trying to record audio, about half a sec latency.
I´m about to do some vocal recordings so I´m going back to Live 6. Hope they fix this bug soon.
I also get near zero latency in Logic 8.
And by the way there has been posts on this issue a few weeks ago.
Good Luck
Tommy

Hi [email protected],
most probably your problem relies to the Plugin-Delay-Compensation.
You should first try to deactivate the Delay Compensation in Live's Options and look, if your Latency only occurs within exactly the track containing the plugin for which you have just changed the patch. All other tracks then should be unaffected.
If this happens, the latency issue is related to the latency within the plug-in itself and the Delay Compensation just adjusts all tracks in Live to that maximum latency to keep them all together in time.
Please report back if its that or if Live shows a different behaviour.
best regards
Henrik

Hi Henrik..Thanks for your reply..I don't use delay compensation,it is set to zero..Once the latency occurs it occurs for all the plugins in Live7..
When I launch a live set with two plugins that are saved with the set..All is fine..This occurs after a period of time..Sometimes almosr immediately and others 10-20 minutes in..Also it can happen without me changing any patches...
Thanx again...JON

Same
I am having the same problem; Live 7, Axium 25 (USB), Fast Track Pro (USB), XP. Sometimes latency is ok, but most of the time it is real bad. Live composition is impossible.
Hope someone has an answer. Production is slowing down dramatically.

Hi..I have just spent last nite and this morning working once again on an answer...The only one I have come up with is to use Logic Pro..Live7 at present is useless to me... What a shame....
I hope they fix whatever it is that is wrong...But til then I am no longer a Live user, nor will I reccomend it to anyone...
I have contacted support and tried that idea...Also Henrik has suggested something here on the forums...But nothing that support or Henrik have suggested work...
I hope anyone else with this problem can find a solution..I have no more time avaiable to waste on a product that does not function properly....JON

man, i think i have this problem too.
i noticed it yesterday, the first time live had been used for an extended period of time. my girlfriend was recording vocals when i was at the shops and called to say there'd been a burst of noise after which there was 1/2-second latency. i thought it was because of a particular plug-in i had on the go (waves guitar tool rack 3, which had exhibited exactly this behaviour in stand-alone mode). i restarted ableton and the problem was gone but soon came back, so i froze the track with the plug-in on and that seemed to do the trick. i'm worried now though, as it's my band's first rehearsal with ableton 7 tonight and the program will be running for about 4 hours, i'll let you know how it goes anyway.

Hi PJ..Hope you get it sussed..There is another thread here, maybe 2-3 pages in.."Latency Growth"" ˆf you are having this problem using windows check it out..I still haven't heard back with anymore things to try from support..The one idea they provided didn't work..Being on a Mac I can't utilize the idea offered on the thread I mentioned...If you find any answers please do post them...JON
jon,
i have used a similar setup (mbp 2.16 + firebox), and while i have experienced some weird latency issues in the past - none seem as bad as what u have.
here's a few questions / suggestions which might help:
firstly is the firebox latest firmware?
next, try setting plugin buffer size to same as audio driver.
if it persists, try without firebox, and use default audio driver at 512 buffer size.
you might also want to try it with pdc off completely (goto options menu and untick PDC)
try it with no vst, only live instrument + effect.
--
BTW, i have one of the first mbp, with multicore switched on.
The idea is to isolate the problem - it could stem from the plugins, audio hardware, live... generally speaking, i have noticed weird latency issues when adding new plugins / trax.
hth,

I just started experiencing this too...I can trigger it very reproducibly by doing the following: put a delay au plugin (one I made in sonic birth i can send it to anyone if they want to try to reproduce this) on an audio channel, switch the monitor state to ON. My latency instantly gets all screwed up, have to restart Live 7 to fix it. If I use the plugin on prerecorded audio channel in Live 7, no problem, or if I use it on monitoring ON in Live 6, no problems either. I'm not sure why this is the case, I have a feeling it is due to how Live 7 is computing the latency of the plugin.
macbook core duo 2gHz 2GB || Live 7.0.2 || and bunch of old analog crap
