my favorite of favorites is Virsyn Tera 3.

It is definitely the slickest, most hard driving, totally wild, thing around...

But its buggy as shit with its preset handling, and its step sequencer, and live...

so I wind up using Rapture more... :-( its also why I am really starting to consider hardware synths....

You never hear that a nOrd lead has a bug... although I am sure they do have bugs.. they just, really work on midi, do all there own processing, they don't have to talk with your computer the way a vst does...

arrg...
too many lasers...

Arturia Minimoog and Sampler. Why? Because I have them and they never fail on me.

A DIY modular environment where you create your own instruments/effects/sequencers/what have you (a couple people have made video games for it, believe it or not). It's also got an excellent factory library as well as a user library with over 2000 ensembles that you can download and use while you come to grips with building your own stuff. I've used it on 95% of everything I've done in the last seven years.
