CLEAN REINSTALL

Post by Boo » Fri Feb 15, 2008 11:24 am

Hi there,

Does someone know how to remove completely the Live application?

I need to go back to 7.0.1 and I've tried deleting all ableton folders in my HD after uninstalling, and deleting all register strings containing "ableton" "live 6" and "live 7" terms.

When I re-install Live keeps the same settings and doesn't even ask me for the serial.

:? What I would like is to to a brand new installation without re-formatting my PC! Is that possible?

Thanks!

7.0.2 just does not work here and I dont know how to "REALY" delete
and reinstall the whole thing...

I get a message saying: A serious program error has occured. Live will
shut down after colsing this message box. after 7.0.2 ist started.

It happens when it says "creating new live set"...

Greeting, Dandy Dust

PS: Yes I have a real purchased boxed version of Abelton Live 7 Suite Updater from Live 6!

Wow man,

My problem is tiny compared to yours!

After upgrading from 7.0.1 to 7.0.2 I got a lot of crashes related with VST that I did not have with previous verison, which was working smooth.

If I reinstall Live 7.0.1 I now got the problems that came with 0.2.

Recently I've read somewhere in this forum that is not a such a good idea to clean registry because you can only install your purchased software a limited number times... is that an urban legend?

The question persists...

When I try to Unlock Live I receive this error: "Max number of unlocks reached." Why is this happening?

You have already used all of your authorizations/Unlocks. Contact [email protected] with your serial number and an adequate explanation of why you have installed so many times, and they will consider allowing more unlocks.

How many times can I Unlock Live?

You can Unlock Live two times if you have registered your serial number on our registration page. Ableton will give you more unlock codes if you send us a brief mail and an adequate explanation of the circumstances.

OK! - What?

My 7.0.2 does not work at all!

When I start the programm it start loading things, (rewire, template etc.)

in the last part, when it says creating no live set it gets stuck an

a box opens: "A serious program error has occured. Live will shut down..."

Thats all! 7.0.1 works ok!

Don´t tell me to use 7.01 and dont ask me if I have a legal copy!

It is legal and I want to use 7.0.2!

Absolutely. I also think I've spent my 2 unlocks already so I'll better avoid massive cleaning  .

Hope 7.0.3 will work better on my system, and will come out soon!!

Hey just got mail from the support crew. Let me paste it here in case someone needs some similar explanations...

7.0.2 runs way better than 7.0.1. therefore i do strongly recommend to
use this version.

To make a clean re-install delete **all* *"preferences.cfg" files that
can be found here (*also the ones from older Live versions*):
C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application
Data\Ableton\Live\Preferences

Now install Live 7.0.2. -
To have a clean re-install you don't need to unlock Live again.

To install a clean Library of Live 7 do the following steps:

-open Live
-go to 'preferences->file folder'
- Set for Library location the default Library path: C:\Documents and
Settings\your user name\My Documents\Ableton\Library

- now download and install all Live 7 Live Packs from:
http://www.ableton.com/livepacks

To install a Live Pack:
-unzip the downloaded file
-open Live 7
-choose 'Install Live Packs' from the 'File' Menu
-point to the downloaded/unzipped '.alp' file and click 'ok'
-proceed with any other Live Pack as described above

NOTE: do NOT install any Live 5 or Live 6 packs. They are not compatible
with Live 7 and will mess up your library. Also, you won't need the
Operator and Sampler packs, unless you own a license for them or want to
try out the Operator/Sampler demo.

If you purchased the Essential Instruments Collection (EIC), you will
have to install the EIC packs as well. They can be found on your
installation DVDs.

Now you should have a clean and working Live 7 library. Make sure you
never touch your library folder again, hence you should not
delete/rename/move any files or subfolders of the library root folder.
